Plan at a glance
A separately booked evening performance
Impression Dahongpao is staged around Chabo Road in the China Wuyi Tea Expo Garden area. The usual entrance is the theatre's main gate. It is an evening outdoor performance with separate booking and should not be treated as part of the garden's free daytime visit.
Common performance times are around 19:30 and 20:50, with extra shows possible in busy periods. The performance lasts about 70 minutes. Common ticket bands are about CNY 178 for standard seats, CNY 208–238 for VIP seats, and CNY 488–688 for guest or premium seats; the child-height rule for children under 1.2 metres should also be confirmed when booking. Arrive 20–30 minutes early for security checks.
When to schedule it
The performance works best as a separate evening plan after the Tea Expo Garden or another daytime attraction. Do not add it at the end of a day of rafting, climbing, and remote travel until the show time, ticket, and return journey are confirmed.
The theatre is outdoors, so heat, rain, and wind matter. Prepare for summer humidity or winter cold, and treat the weather plan, rain gear, and any performance adjustment as same-day arrangements.

Rotating seats and a mountain-and-water stage
The audience seating can rotate, allowing viewers to see different parts of the landscape as the performance changes. The seats may move during the show, so remain seated as instructed and do not stand up or change seats while they are rotating.
The stage uses the tea gardens, river, mountains, and night lighting as one outdoor setting. The main appeal is the combination of the real landscape and tea-culture scenes, rather than a fixed indoor theatre set.
Tea culture and the night atmosphere
The performance includes tea-related scenes such as picking, tea making, and tea tasting or competition. It is best understood as an evening experience built around Wuyishan's landscape and tea culture. The story, viewing angle, and rhythm can feel different depending on the seat, weather, and the day's performance, so do not promise a particular response in advance.
It suits families, older adults who do not want to climb at night, photographers, and visitors who enjoy outdoor productions. Anyone who dislikes open-air venues, worries about late-night transport, or cannot sit for a long performance should assess the weather and return options first.
Build your day
About two hours: Tea Expo Garden and the first show
Visit the Tea Expo Garden for about an hour in the afternoon, then reach the theatre according to the confirmed entry time and watch the performance around 19:30. Finish the garden visit before the security-check window; do not leave the final tea-garden photographs until just before admission.
Taxi demand may rise after the show. Staying nearby or arranging a transfer in advance is more reliable. Do not assume that a short-looking distance to the hotel automatically makes a late-night walk safe or convenient.
About three to four hours: sunset, performance, and dispersal
Walk around the Tea Expo Garden or Chongyang Creek in the early evening, arrive at the theatre in time for security checks, and decide after the show whether to take a taxi or walk a short section before leaving. Sunset time, creekside lighting, and the path after the performance vary by season and weather.
If your group needs dinner, arrange it before the show or confirm a place that will still be open afterwards. Do not assume that the area will have ample late-night food after every performance.
One day: core attractions by day and the performance at night
Strong hikers can visit Tianyou Peak, take the Jiuquxi raft, or walk through Dahongpao during the day, then visit the Tea Expo Garden and attend the performance at night. This can be a long day for most visitors, so schedule the raft slot, climb, sightseeing-shuttle last departure, and theatre entry separately.
If the group has already completed a long Tianyou Peak climb, shorten the afternoon garden walk and prioritise arriving at the theatre on time. The performance is a separate product; a daytime scenic-area ticket or shuttle plan does not replace the performance admission.
Get there
Bus, taxi, and walking
Take Bus 6 or 7 to Tea Expo Garden Stop, then walk about five minutes to the theatre. A taxi from Sangu Resort usually takes about ten minutes. If you stay nearby, you can walk along the Chongyang Creek path, but confirm the night lighting and the group's energy before relying on it.
Vehicles are in high demand after the show. When booking, plan the accommodation, transfer, or taxi arrangement at the same time as the outbound journey; do not plan only how to get there.
Driving and parking
Drivers can navigate to the Tea Expo Garden parking area and walk to the theatre. Whether the lot charges, has spaces, or becomes congested at the exit depends on the day's operation, so include the pick-up route and time after the show.
If you plan to walk to nearby accommodation after the performance, confirm the actual distance and night-time road conditions. When in doubt, use a confirmed transfer or taxi rather than looking for a vehicle on a quiet road.
Know before you go
Ticket bands, shows, and child rules
Ticket prices and seating areas vary by band. When booking, confirm the specific show, seating area, child-height rule, and change or refund conditions. A price offered by another platform or a local accommodation host should not be treated as a fixed price available to every visitor.
Whether there are two shows in one evening, an extra show, or a particular seating layout may change by season. Do not promise that a specific row has the best view, or that the front, centre, or another seat section will always be available.
Outdoor weather
The theatre is outdoors. Summer evenings can be humid, winter nights can be windy, and the arrangement for rain and rain gear may change. Bring light rain protection and suitable warm or cool-weather clothing, and follow the entry notice and on-site instructions.
The seats may rotate, so follow the staff's seating instructions. Do not move around during the performance or enter the stage area to take photographs.
Dispersal and accommodation
Everyone leaves at the same time after the performance, so taxis may take time. Staying near the Tea Expo Garden or Sangu Resort can make the return easier, but the vehicle still needs to be confirmed. Walking along the creek should only be considered when the route, lighting, and conditions are clear.
If you do not have a reliable night-time return plan, do not schedule the performance after a remote attraction. Decide how you will return first, then choose the show.
