How to Visit
1

Make the waterfall group the core section of your Maling River Canyon visit

The Maling River Waterfall Group is not really a separate major scenic area away from the canyon. Its main sights are spread along the canyon floor and cliff walls inside Maling River Canyon. After entering, follow the boardwalk and signs for Wanma Benteng, Huanglong Waterfall, Pearl Waterfall, Bigua Cliff, and Sea Lion Suspension Bridge.

Tip:If your route already includes Maling River Canyon, this page should focus on water volume and waterfall viewpoints, not repeat the whole canyon guide.
2

Prioritize Wanma Benteng and Huanglong Waterfall

Official descriptions list Wanma Benteng Waterfall at about 168 meters high and Huanglong Waterfall at about 78 meters high. These are the easiest places to feel the water volume and drop. In rainy season, give these two stops more time.

Tip:Heavy mist may make photos less clean, but the on-site impact is stronger. Waterproof your phone or camera before getting close.
3

Use Sea Lion Suspension Bridge for multiple waterfalls in one view

Sea Lion Suspension Bridge is a good place to understand how the waterfalls sit on both sides of the canyon. Do not only stay at the foot of a waterfall; the bridge view shows the idea of a waterfall group better.

Tip:On the bridge, keep moving and leave space for others. Do not occupy the middle for long photo sessions.
4

Adjust expectations by water volume

June to September is usually better for powerful waterfalls. When water flow is lower, focus more on travertine formations, cliff texture, and the canyon structure. Do not come only for "hundreds of waterfalls flying at once"; that depends on rain and water conditions.

Tip:If water is low that day, shift your attention to Bigua Cliff, Sea Lion Hall, the suspension bridge, and the overall canyon-floor walk.
Highlights
  • The value of the Maling River Waterfall Group is the combination of many waterfalls, canyon drop, and travertine cliff walls.
  • Wanma Benteng Waterfall is the most forceful core sight, especially in rainy season.
  • Huanglong Waterfall has concentrated flow and strong mist when you get close.
  • Sea Lion Suspension Bridge shows multiple waterfalls and the canyon structure better than one single waterfall photo.
  • Bigua Cliff adds geological texture, so the waterfall group is not only about water.
Insider Tips

For stronger waterfalls, choose rainy season or a safe open day after rainfall.

Near waterfalls, the ground is often wet. Do not step backward while taking photos.

A raincoat works better than an umbrella in the canyon, especially on narrow boardwalks.

When water volume is high, sound and mist can be intense. Keep a comfortable distance with children or older visitors.

Do not cross railings to get closer to waterfalls. The real risks are slippery ground and height, not just water flow.
