Treat Wanfeng Lake as a half-day lake route, not a quick city stop
Wanfeng Lake is some distance from Xingyi city, and public transport is less convenient than for Wanfenglin or Maling River. It works better by self-driving, hired car, or as a half-day plan with Jilong Castle, Hongchun Wharf, and a lake-fish meal.
Tip:If you also plan Maling River Canyon and Wanfenglin that day, adding Wanfeng Lake will stretch the route too much.

Decide whether you want to see the lake or take a boat
If you only want lake views, a fish meal, and distant photos of Jilong Castle, you can stay around the wharf and lakeside. If you want to see water-level peak forests, the Little Three Gorges, and water stone-forest scenery, plan for a cruise.
Tip:The best Wanfeng Lake views are from the water, but boat trips depend on schedule, passenger numbers, and weather.

Ticketing pages commonly list Wanfeng Lake hours as 08:30-17:30 in peak season and 09:00-17:00 in winter, with entry usually stopping around 16:00. Boat departures still depend on same-day wharf operations.
Tip:Do not arrive too late. In low season or when there are fewer visitors, you may need to wait for a boat, and late arrival reduces your options.

Pair the lake scenery with a meal
Wanfeng Lake is best taken slowly: cruise the lake, see water-level peaks, photograph Jilong Castle from a distance, then have a lake-fish meal. It does not work well as a rushed photo stop.
Tip:Lake restaurants vary in price and style. Ask clearly about weight, cooking method, and price before ordering.
