How to Visit

Travel from central Xining to the entrance at the foot of the hill.
Take a taxi, or use a city bus serving the Beishan area and walk to the entrance. On arrival, identify the open temple areas and the public walking routes toward the hillside.
Tip:Arrive in daylight rather than starting an uphill visit late in the day; the temple grounds and the accessible parts of the cliff and hillside are not the same.

Ticketing, registration, opening hours, and accessible areas can change with on-site management, so follow entrance notices and staff instructions. Wear clothing that covers shoulders and knees, and remain quiet inside halls.
Tip:Do not treat halls as photo backdrops. Check signs and ask permission before photographing religious images, ceremonies, staff, or other visitors.

Visit the open temple grounds first, then view the cliff from accessible paths.
Visit the lower courtyards, open halls, accessible hillside paths, and viewpoints in that order, allowing about 1-2 hours. Treat the cliffside buildings and caves as features to view from a distance.
Tip:Upper caves, walkways, or cliffside structures may be closed for safety reasons. Do not plan on entering caves or climbing to the suspended buildings.

Leave early if weather or fitness makes the route unsuitable.
Wear shoes with good grip, and carry water, sun protection, and an extra warm layer. Return to the main road at the foot of the hill before arranging a taxi or bus.
Tip:Steep slopes, steps, wet or snowy surfaces, wind, strong sun, altitude discomfort, and darkness all add risk. Do not remain on closed or quiet hillside paths after dark.
