Reserve your visit and get there

Use the museum's individual reservation channel to reserve a time slot, then bring your original passport to No. 58 Xiguan Street. Admission is free. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 09:00 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:30, and is closed on Mondays. Take public transport to the Xinning Square South area and walk, or take a taxi directly to the museum.

Pass security and start with the permanent displays

After document checks and security, ask where the permanent-history exhibition begins and where temporary exhibitions are located that day. Avoid bringing large luggage, as storage arrangements are not reliably confirmed. Follow gallery and case signage for photography; do not use flash or video where photography is prohibited.

Follow the core collection route

Prioritise the Qinghai history and painted-pottery galleries, then use remaining time for steppe gold, Buddhist sculpture, and temporary exhibitions. Look for the Dancing-Pattern Painted Pottery Basin, the Two-Person Carrying-Object Basin, the Painted Pottery Boot, and the Wolf Attacking Bull Gold Plaque. If the Yongle gilt-bronze Guanyin is away on loan, continue with the main route rather than reorganising the visit around one object.

Plan your departure and onward transport

Be inside the main exhibition route by 16:00 and leave time for a taxi or public transport after your visit. Monday closure is a fixed planning risk, while weekends can add time at reservations, security, and popular cases. Entry is not possible after 16:30.
