Location and entrances
Yangtiangang National Forest Park is in Yushui District, Xinyu, and has several entrances. The Martyrs’ Memorial Square is the north entrance for the stepped challenge route; the south entrance is beside the south gate of the Taiyangcheng (太阳城) residential area, and an eastern trail entrance is also available for shorter walks.
Tickets and hours
Entry is free and the park is open all day. All-day access does not mean that the mountain has reliable lighting or safe conditions at night, so anyone planning a sunset visit should include the descent in the timing.
How long to allow
The full route from the north entrance to Yangtian Pavilion (仰天观) and down the fire access road takes about 2–3 hours. The shorter leisure route from the south entrance takes about 1 hour; the difference in climbing and walking is substantial, so choose the entrance to match your fitness.

The summit view
The summit is about 424 metres above sea level, and the Yangtian Pavilion platform looks over Xinyu. It is the main high point of the park and works best for a city panorama or sunset when the weather is clear; cloud and rain can reduce the view.
Forest paths
The north route climbs past the Yangtiangang Monument and Red Army Pavilion, with trees and steps that create a strong sense of depth for photographs. Rainbow Road is another colourful surface feature, while the small waterfall appears only when recent rainfall provides enough water.
Who it suits
Hikers and visitors who want a climb and a city view can choose the challenge route. People who want roughly an hour in the forest can use the south entrance leisure route; visitors with strollers or limited mobility should assess the steps and trail surface before setting out.
For a flatter wetland alternative, see Kongmu River National Wetland Park.
Build your day
North entrance challenge route: about 2–3 hours
Enter at Martyrs’ Memorial Square and climb the stone steps past the Yangtiangang Monument and Red Army Pavilion to Yangtian Pavilion for the city view. Descend by the fire access road toward the main forest-park road and leave from that direction; this route does not return down the same stairway.
South entrance leisure route: about 1 hour
Set the destination to the south gate of the Taiyangcheng (太阳城) residential area and enter from there. Follow the trail for several hundred metres before the shorter climb begins, then turn back at a comfortable point or continue along the local road as conditions allow; this is the practical option for a lighter walk.
Adding a sunset stop
If you want sunset at Yangtian Pavilion, prepare to descend while there is still light and learn the fire-road and main-road directions before stopping to watch the view. The summit is windy, so bring a light jacket; night lighting is limited, and you should start down before it is fully dark.
Get there
Public transport
Bus routes 401 and 403 run toward Yangtiangang. Use Martyrs’ Memorial Square as the destination for the challenge route and the south gate of the Taiyangcheng (太阳城) residential area for the leisure route; the two entrances lead to different walks.
Parking
Free parking is available around Martyrs’ Memorial Square, with enough space for visitors driving to the north entrance challenge route. For the south entrance, check parking around the residential-area gate on the day and do not assume that a south-side walk will return you to the north entrance.
Returning after the climb
The challenge route descends by the fire access road and joins the main forest-park road, so the return direction differs from the uphill steps. The leisure route returns toward the south-gate area; save your parking location or bus direction before climbing so you can find the correct exit easily on the way down.
Know before you go
Steps and wet conditions
The climb from Martyrs’ Memorial Square is mainly on stone steps and places a real demand on your knees and cardio fitness. After rain, steps, forest paths, and the downhill fire road may be slippery; wear shoes with good grip.
Weather at the summit
Wind is usually stronger at the summit than under the trees, so bring a light jacket if you plan to stay for sunset. Sunset is a weather-dependent option; in rain, poor visibility, or late light, start down early.
Photography and supplies
Yangtian Pavilion is the place for a city panorama and sunset, forest paths work for light and shadow, and Rainbow Road adds a colourful foreground for photos. Do not rely on supplies along the mountain; carry enough water before climbing, then return to the city for Shuibei pickled rice noodles or Mangzi soup noodles.
