Two entrances lead into a large village walking area
Chaji Ancient Village is in Chaji Village, Taohua Tan Town, Jing County, Xuancheng. It has south and north entrances, with the south gate serving as the main visitor entrance. Red Tower Bridge, Degong Hall, Erjia Ancestral Hall and Baogong Ancestral Hall are spread along the village waterways and lanes, so the visit covers more than a single photo stop.
The short route takes about 1.5–2 hours; the full route takes about 3–4 hours. Driving is the easiest option. A tourist shuttle from Jingxian Railway Station is also possible, but check the service, boarding conditions and return before travelling.
Seasonal ticket prices apply
The peak season runs from March 1 to November 30, with tickets at about CNY 65. The low season runs from December 1 to the end of February, with tickets at about CNY 55. Online and on-site prices, paid-building access and temporary arrangements follow the travel date.
The public village walking area can be visited throughout the day. Paid buildings such as Degong Hall and Erjia Ancestral Hall generally open around 08:00–17:30. Village paths, bridges and streamside areas may be slippery after rain.

Main waterway route: Red Tower Bridge and ancestral halls
Chaji is best understood through its buildings along the water and its ancestral halls. Red Tower Bridge brings together the bridge, stream and Huizhou houses. Degong Hall is known for its Yuan-dynasty brick carving, Erjia Ancestral Hall for its wood carving, and Baogong Ancestral Hall is one of the larger halls in the village.
This route suits visitors interested in historic buildings, the traditional Huizhou “Three Carvings” of wood, brick and stone, photography and sketching. Check which rooms are open on the day, as some buildings are not accessible throughout the day.
Lanes and viewpoints: leave time for village walking
The lanes branching from the main waterway pass residents' homes, old bridges and Huizhou houses of different sizes. Paid upper-level viewpoints can be found around Guangyuan Tower and the Tofu Workshop area; check the fee and opening status when you arrive.
Allow 3–4 hours if building details and photography are the main purpose. A visit focused on the main waterway and Red Tower Bridge can be completed in about 1.5–2 hours.
Build your day
Short route: south gate to Red Tower Bridge
Enter through the south gate, cross Caishen Bridge and follow the right bank of the Chaji River. Visit Degong Hall, Red Tower Bridge and Baogong Ancestral Hall, then return by the same way or through a nearby exit. Allow about 1.5–2 hours.
Degong Hall, Erjia Ancestral Hall and other buildings have their own opening times. First see which indoor areas are open, then decide which ancestral halls to visit first.
Full route: main waterway, halls and lanes
Follow south gate → Caishen Bridge → Degong Hall → Erjia Ancestral Hall → Red Tower Bridge → Baogong Ancestral Hall, then return through the lanes. Follow the main waterway first to get your bearings, then explore the lanes on the return.
Allow about 3–4 hours for the walk, indoor visits and photography. A paid viewpoint or a wait for an exhibition space to open will add time.
Get there
Drive to the visitor-centre parking area
Navigate to the Chaji Ancient Village Visitor Centre parking area. Parking is about CNY 10 per day. The south gate is the main visitor entrance; follow the day's signs and do not park on village roads.
Take the tourist shuttle from Jingxian Railway Station
The tourist shuttle from Jingxian Railway Station takes about 1.5 hours. Some services may have discount policies, but eligibility can change, so check the current fare and eligibility before departure. Also confirm the departure time, boarding point, ticketing and return service.
Chaji and Peach Blossom Pool can fit into a one- or two-day Jing County driving trip. They have separate ticketing and walking areas, and the road and parking conditions will affect the order.
Know before you go
Check indoor access and prices on the day
Use about CNY 65 for the peak season and about CNY 55 for the low season when planning your budget. Online discounts, temporary ticket rules and access to paid buildings can change. If Degong Hall or Erjia Ancestral Hall is important to your visit, check that it is open that day.
Streamside paths, rain and food
Bridges, stone paths and streamside sections can be slippery after rain. Wear shoes with good grip and slow down. Choose a restaurant with clear hygiene standards along the village route; for more food choices, plan the main meal in Jing County town.
