Main focus and visit length

Guishan Han Tomb is at No. 3 Xiangwang North Road in Gulou District. It is the joint tomb of Liu Zhu, the sixth-generation Chu king of the Western Han, and his wife. The main reasons to come are the two 56-metre passageways, the tomb layout and the precision of the excavation. Allow about 1 hour for the tomb alone or about 2 hours with Dianshi Garden and the Imperial Edict Museum.

The single-site ticket for Guishan Han Tomb is CNY 40. Dianshi Garden and the Imperial Edict Museum can be added according to your interests. Ordinary visits do not require advance reservation. Regular hours are 08:30–17:30, with final entry at 17:00; visitors with a teacher qualification certificate can receive half-price admission.

Entrance and the way to visit

The scenic-area entrance is also the main entrance to the tomb, with the ticket office and entry check in the same area. Most objects inside are replicas, so a guide should focus on the passages, chambers and tomb inscriptions. First-time visitors will get more from the visit with an audio guide or human guide than by simply following the tunnel.

The two passageways and the tomb structure

The two passageways, each about 56 metres long, are the most important feature to examine closely. The relationship between the chambers, coffin room and passageways makes more sense when you take time to observe the layout. This stop suits visitors interested in ancient engineering, architecture and Han burial practices.

The inscription and the natural-light shadow

The “Di Bai Shang Shi” tomb inscription and the “Chu King Welcoming Guests” shadow on the north wall of the coffin chamber are two representative points. The shadow is formed by natural light and may be faint on cloudy days. If the light is poor, move on to the passages and other exhibition buildings instead of waiting for a fixed photo effect.

Who this suits

Guishan Han Tomb suits visitors interested in historic buildings, Han culture and royal-tomb structures, including students. The underground rooms are cool and damp, the floor may be slippery, and repeated steps or long periods of bending can be difficult for visitors with limited mobility.

Build your day

A one-hour quick route

Enter through the main gate and follow the main tomb passage. Focus on the two passageways, the “Di Bai Shang Shi” inscription and the “Chu King Welcoming Guests” shadow, then leave through the exit. If time is limited, keep Dianshi Garden and the Imperial Edict Museum for another visit so you can concentrate on the tomb itself.

A two-hour complete route

Visit Guishan Han Tomb first, then continue to Dianshi Garden and the Imperial Edict Museum. This order reduces backtracking. Some experiences inside the Imperial Edict Museum may charge separately; decide after arrival according to the day's arrangement.

Time and the return trip

The site is relatively separate from the city centre and is usually better treated as its own stop. On non-holiday days, a car may not be immediately available outside the entrance. Arrange a ride while visiting the final building or leave enough time to wait.

Get there

Metro, bus and taxi

Take Xuzhou Metro Line 1 to Hanshan Station (韩山站), then transfer to a bus or taxi. Several bus routes stop at Guishan Han Tomb. Set “Guishan Han Tomb” as the destination and enter through the main scenic-area gate.

Driving

The site has a car park with relatively good capacity. Drivers should still arrange the return trip in advance, especially on non-holiday days and in the late afternoon, when an on-the-spot taxi may take time to arrive.

Know before you go

Underground conditions and footwear

The tomb stays cool throughout the year, including in summer. The floor can be slippery and the passages are long, so wear non-slip shoes and walk slowly. When taking photos, keep the narrow passages clear for other visitors.

Limited-date night visit

From 25 July to 23 August 2026, a separate night visit runs from 19:00 to 19:30. It requires a same-day telephone reservation between 08:30 and 18:00 at 0516-85770107, and places are limited. This is a dated activity with its own reservation rule, not part of regular daytime hours.

Guiding and light

A human guide or audio guide is useful for understanding the tomb structure. The “Chu King Welcoming Guests” shadow depends on natural light; if it is not visible on a cloudy day, do not spend a long time waiting. The main value of the visit is the architecture and excavation work, since most objects inside are replicas.
