Chu King's Mausoleum
Chu King's Mausoleum is the part of the scenic area that rewards the most careful visit. You can follow the passage into the hillside and observe the layout of the corridors, chambers and a Han royal tomb. The underground section stays cool and has many steps, so wear flat, non-slip shoes; older adults and children should carry a light jacket.
Han terracotta figures, the underwater museum and stone reliefs
The Han Terracotta Warriors Museum displays thousands of small terracotta figures, with individual pieces measuring only a few dozen centimetres. Look closely at the formations, poses and expressive Han style; their scale is very different from the Terracotta Army in Xi'an. The Underwater Han Terracotta Warriors Museum presents the original site of a cavalry figure pit, while the Han Stone Relief Gallery is suited to a slower look at carved scenes and the long corridor itself.
Who this suits
The scenic area suits visitors interested in Han history, archaeology and royal-tomb structures, as well as families introducing children to history. The buildings are far apart, so walking for several hours can be tiring. Visitors with older adults or children can consider the sightseeing vehicle, listed at CNY 20–40 per person.
Build your day
A two-hour quick route
Enter through the South Gate and visit Chu King's Mausoleum, the Han Terracotta Warriors Museum and the Underwater Han Terracotta Warriors Museum in that order. This route concentrates on the three most important exhibition areas and suits visitors with limited time or anyone who prefers to reduce long walks. If the site is busy, leave extra time for entry into the mausoleum and queues inside the museums.
A three- to four-hour complete route
Enter through the South Gate and walk from Han Culture Square to Chu King's Mausoleum, then continue to the Han Terracotta Warriors Museum and the Underwater Han Terracotta Warriors Museum. Continue to the Han Stone Relief Gallery and finish with a distant view of Zhulin Temple. The buildings are spread out, so you can walk or choose the sightseeing vehicle after arrival according to your energy; there is no need to rush each exhibition just to complete the route.
Connecting with Xuzhou Museum
The jade burial suit shown inside this scenic area is a replica. Genuine gold-thread jade burial suits and other important finds from Chu King's Mausoleum are held at Xuzhou Museum. The two places are separate stops, so allow time for each one rather than treating the museum as another building inside the scenic area.
Get there
Metro and the South Gate
Take Xuzhou Metro Line 2 to Han Culture Scenic Area Station (汉文化景区站), Exit 2. The exit leads directly to the South Gate, which is the most practical starting point for a first visit because it is close to Chu King's Mausoleum.
Taxi and driving
A taxi from central areas such as Pengcheng Square takes about 20–30 minutes. A licensed ride-hailing car is a safer choice than accepting unsolicited rides from cars or three-wheelers near the station or entrance. Drivers can follow the scenic-area car park location; after parking, you still need time for walking or the sightseeing vehicle inside the grounds.
Know before you go
Walking, temperature and photography
The mausoleum is cool and damp, with long passages and many steps. Non-slip shoes are more suitable than hard-soled shoes. The Han terracotta figures are small and work best as a close-up museum visit; plan your expectations around their actual scale rather than the size of the Terracotta Army in Xi'an.
The mausoleum passages, the outside of the Underwater Han Terracotta Warriors Museum and the Han Stone Relief Gallery are useful photography points. The view of the underwater museum with Zhulin Temple changes with weather and light; a clear evening is more likely to give a sharp view, but the exact lighting cannot be guaranteed.
Guiding and the return trip
Because there are several exhibition buildings, a rented audio guide or shared private guide can make the visit easier to understand. The listed reference cost is CNY 20–30. When returning to central Xuzhou, use a licensed ride-hailing service or arrange a car in advance; do not accept unsolicited offers at the gate.
Documents for concessions
Visitors using a free or half-price concession should carry the relevant identity card, student card, teacher qualification certificate, admission notice or other proof. Date-limited offers apply only to the stated groups and dates, so handle the ticket according to the documents valid on the day of the visit.
