Plan at a glance

A wetland outside the city

Pan'an Lake Wetland Park is in Jiawang District, at the junction of National Highway 310 and the Xujia Expressway. It is about a 40–50-minute drive from central Xuzhou and works best as a separate half-day visit. Do not treat it as a short add-on to a museum or Yunlong Lake walking route.

The park is large. Allow 2–3 hours for a shorter route, or 4–6 hours if you want the water-fir boardwalk, reed beds and a boat ride. Free parking is available. Bus route 26 reaches the park but takes longer, so first-time visitors and families will usually find a car or pre-arranged transfer easier.

Tickets and combination options

The entrance ticket is CNY 40. A combination product including admission, a boat ticket and Bird Island is listed at CNY 69–70; the boat and Bird Island are not automatically included in the entrance-only ticket. Children under 1.2 metres are usually free. Handle the ticket according to the travellers' heights and the product details available on the day.

Choose your visit

Water firs and the boardwalk

The water-fir forest is one of the park's representative landscapes. The wooden boardwalk reaches into the water and trees, making it suitable for observing the wetland, photographing light through the forest and walking at a slower pace. The main attraction is the natural setting, so allow for long distances and service facilities that may not run continuously.

Bird Island and family visits

Bird Island is a common choice for families. Visitors can observe and feed swans, parrots, raccoons and other animals at close range. Follow the on-site rules for animal interaction, and allow a full stretch of time for queues, the boat ride and the visit rather than treating Bird Island as a quick stop after arrival.

Lotus, reeds and open water

Lotus is mainly a summer feature, while the reed beds are more suitable for an autumn visit. In other seasons, focus on the open lake, water firs and wooden paths. Photographers can choose a route around the season's strongest subject; families may prefer to combine the boat, Bird Island and one shorter boardwalk section.

Who this suits

Pan'an Lake suits families, photographers and visitors with a car looking for an outdoor break. People who want water-fir light, animal interaction or open lake scenery are more likely to enjoy it. The park was created through ecological restoration of a coal-mining subsidence area, with lakes, wetlands, islands and forest spread across a wide site; the experience depends on natural scenery and how you move inside the park. Visitors seeking dense galleries, polished commercial facilities and continuous services should set their expectations accordingly.

Build your day

A two- to three-hour boat route

Enter through the main gate and go first to the sightseeing-boat pier. Take the boat to Bird Island, then return by boat while looking at the water firs and lotus ponds along the way. This route uses the boat to cover a long distance and suits visitors with limited time, families with children or anyone who does not want to walk the entire park. Boat departures and boarding arrangements depend on the conditions on the day.

A four- to six-hour complete route

From the main entrance, walk through the water-fir forest and along the wooden boardwalk, then continue to the sightseeing-boat pier and Bird Island. After Bird Island, continue to the reed-bed area and return to the exit. You can bring simple food or eat on the island if something is open that day; because the park is spread out, bring water and basic supplies before starting.

Choosing between park transport and walking

The sightseeing vehicle and bicycle rental are paid services, and their schedules may not be fixed. Ask about them after arrival. With an entrance-only ticket, some areas may need to be connected on foot; if you want both Bird Island and the distant water-fir forest, compare the combination ticket with the day's boat arrangements before committing to the longer route.

Get there

From central Xuzhou

Driving from central Xuzhou takes about 40–50 minutes. Navigate to the Pan'an Lake Wetland Park main entrance or visitor-centre area. Free parking is available, but after parking you still need to walk to the ticket check, entrance and sightseeing-boat pier; the car cannot be taken beside each individual attraction.

Public transport

Bus route 26 reaches Pan'an Lake but takes a long time. Leave extra time for the return bus and waiting. If you do not have a car, plan both the outward and return journeys before leaving rather than confirming only how to get there.

Moving inside the park

The sightseeing vehicle, bicycles and boat serve different sections. The boat connects the main entrance, Bird Island and water views, but it does not reach every wooden path or reed-bed area. A complete visit still requires walking.

Know before you go

Seasonal opening hours

From January to April and November to December, hours are 08:50–17:00 with final entry at 16:30. From May to October, hours are 08:50–17:30 with final entry at 17:00. The park is outside the city, so arrive well before final entry and leave room for delays in transport or boat departures.

Entrance and combination tickets

The CNY 40 entrance ticket and the CNY 69–70 admission, boat and Bird Island combination are different products. The entrance ticket does not include the boat or Bird Island automatically, so check what is included before paying. Spending money at a park restaurant is not a fixed admission benefit or a guaranteed way to drive into the park.

Facilities, supplies and walking

The park is large, and the opening situation of commercial and children's facilities may change. Bring water, snacks, sun protection and comfortable walking shoes. Leave time for a sightseeing vehicle that does not arrive immediately, a long gap between boat departures or a longer-than-expected walk.

Nearby plans

Pan'an Water Town is undergoing renovation and should not be treated as a guaranteed stop after the wetland park. Pan'an Lake works best as an independent half-day visit; plan city food and the return journey after you are back in central Xuzhou.
