Plan at a glance
Mountain road and viewing scope
Dongping Wind Farm Ridge is near Dongping Town in Yangdong District. Common navigation points include “Yangjiang Dongping Wind Farm Ridge”, Kuanggou Feitianding, and the No. 99 wind-turbine viewing platform. It is a free, unmanaged mountain-road viewpoint, not an attraction with ticketing, toilets, rescue services, or a campsite. The drive up from central Dongping takes about 15 minutes, but the road is narrow, steep, and winding.
Plan a short 1–2 hour visit in daylight or before early evening. There are no road lights at night, and fog, wind, and visibility can make the descent difficult. Do not treat night driving, camping, or stargazing as standard parts of the visit.
What to expect from the view
In clear weather, the platforms look over Dongping Town, the harbour, and the coast. Rain, fog, or low cloud may leave you with only the nearby road and turbines. Sunrise, sunset, and cloud views are weather-dependent, so leave room to cancel or descend early.

Turbines and coastal views
The No. 99 platform and ridge road are the main reasons to come. Use the safe platforms to look at the turbines, hillsides, and Dongping coast. There is no full visitor infrastructure here, so the visit is a short viewpoint stop rather than an off-road adventure.
Photographers can wait for better light, but wind, stable footing, and a safe return matter more than a shot. Secure loose items in high wind, and do not approach road edges, turbine foundations, or unprotected slopes.
Who it suits
This stop suits self-drive travellers with mountain-road experience and short-hike visitors who accept limited facilities. Families with very young children, older travellers, and drivers unfamiliar with narrow mountain roads should choose Dongping Town, Pearl Bay, or Da’ao Fishing Village instead.
Build your day
A 1–2 hour daytime viewpoint route
Drive from Dongping Town along the passable concrete road to the viewing area. Once road and weather conditions are safe, park briefly, walk a short distance, and take in the view before returning the same way. If the final section has deep holes, mud, or difficult passing, stop in a safe place and walk only as far as conditions allow; do not force a vehicle through.
On arrival, check your signal, wind, and latest safe descent time. Do not remain until dark for a photograph, and do not plan to stay overnight on a ridge without lighting or toilets.
A Dongping half-day combination
Visit Da’ao Fishing Village or Dongping Town in the morning, eat and rest at midday, then use the ridge for a daytime view before returning to town before dark. If you add Pearl Bay, Feilong Temple, or another coast stop, plan each road and parking condition separately rather than treating the wind farm as an easy night-time add-on.
Get there
Reaching Dongping and the ridge
Public transport is inconvenient. Travel first to Yangjiang Station, then use a taxi or arrange a vehicle in Dongping Town. The drive uphill from town is about 15 minutes, but passing traffic, road conditions, and weather can change that. After navigation reaches the viewpoint area, follow the roads that are actually open.
Parking and driving
Parking near the summit and platforms is limited. Do not block a single-lane road, bend, emergency access, or residential entrance. New drivers should not treat a muddy or steep final stretch as a necessary destination; if you park and walk, leave enough time for the return and changing light.
Know before you go
Weather, wind, and visibility
Wind is stronger and temperatures can be lower on the ridge than in town. Fog can reduce visibility sharply in wet weather. If you cannot see the road clearly or the wind makes it hard to stand safely, descend immediately instead of searching for a higher viewpoint.
There are no lights, toilets, or reliable supplies on the mountain. Bring water, a light jacket, a headlamp, and basic emergency items before setting off. Even for a one-hour stop, use shoes and timing suitable for a mountain road.
Environmental and outdoor risks
This is not a managed campground. Do not light fires, leave rubbish, or camp overnight on the ridge. Take everything back with you, keep away from grazing animals, and continue along open routes without trying to interact with them.
