Plan at a glance
Town scope and opening pattern
Zhapo is Hailing Island’s main town for daily life, food, and transport. Common stopping points include Zhapo Fishing Port, Yiyecheng Food Street, and the area around Dajiao Bay. The town is free to enter and does not require a reservation. Night-market stalls and shops generally operate from 10:00–23:00, but each business keeps its own hours.
Allow half a day to one day. Zhapo is a base for accommodation, meals, supplies, and transfers rather than one beach ticket. Dajiao Bay, the museum, and other beaches need separate plans; walking through town does not replace admission to a paid attraction.
Where to stay and eat
Stay in Zhapo or near Dajiao Bay for seafood, evening walks, and short transfers. Shili Silver Beach is better for a quieter sunrise base, while Beiluo Bay suits travellers who want resort facilities. Book the accommodation first, then plan parking and returns around that location.

Port, food street, and local dishes
Zhapo Fishing Port is a place to see the boats and understand the town’s working coastline. Yiyecheng Food Street is better for evening snacks, walking, and basic supplies. Try local dishes such as pig-intestine rolls (猪肠碌), seafood rice noodles, Spanish mackerel noodles, and shrimp balls; check individual menus, hours, and seating on arrival.
Zhapo suits seafood lovers, families, visitors who enjoy food-focused walks, and anyone using the town as a Hailing Island base. Swimmers should use a managed bathing area; the port, streets, and night market are not swimming areas.
Combining the town with the coast
Zhapo is a practical hub between Dajiao Bay, Shili Silver Beach, Mawei Island, and the museum. Place the town visit around lunch or dinner to avoid the strongest midday sun. The ticket, lifeguard, and tide rules of each coast remain separate even when you start from Zhapo.
Build your day
A half-day port and town route
During the day, start at the fishing port and walk towards Yiyecheng Food Street, choosing a restaurant or snack stall with clear prices. In hot weather, take an indoor break or return to the hotel in the afternoon, then come back for dinner instead of walking in full sun for hours.
This route works for a short stop, older travellers, and visitors who mainly need food or supplies. After parking, complete the walk and meal on foot where possible; do not drive repeatedly through narrow streets looking for a space beside a shop.
A full seafood and beach day
Buy seafood at a recognised market in the morning and confirm how it will be prepared, then spend the afternoon at Dajiao Bay or another managed bathing area. If the tide, weather, and return time allow, visit Mawei Island or another open coast in the evening; leave rocks and tidal flats before dark and return to Zhapo for dinner.
This plan requires separate checks for the town and the beach. Dajiao Bay tickets, water facilities, and lifeguard zones do not apply to free beaches, and nearby Mawei Island does not have the same level of management simply because it is close to Zhapo.
Get there
High-speed rail and local transport
The trip from Yangjiang Station to Zhapo takes about 40 minutes, and shared rides or taxis vary by vehicle and time. In town, walk, take a taxi, or rent an electric two-wheeler from a proper operator. Check the bike condition, range, helmet, and return point before leaving.
Driving and parking
Drive to Zhapo Fishing Port, your hotel, or a proper car park near Dajiao Bay. Traffic is heavy in holidays. When spaces are limited, park in a clearly permitted area and walk into the town; do not follow an unfamiliar tout into a private car park with unclear charges.
Know before you go
Seafood buying and preparation
Before buying seafood or ordering preparation, confirm the species, weight, unit, preparation fee, and any additional service charge. Clear prices and an on-the-spot agreement matter more than finding a supposedly cheap restaurant; leave if the price or calculation is unclear.
Markets, restaurants, and night stalls become much busier on holidays. Arriving before the peak meal period makes seating easier. With children or older adults, leave time for a break instead of placing dinner between two very tight island transfers.
Beach safety and tidal flats
Free streets in Zhapo do not mean that every nearby beach is safe. Swim only in an open area with clear lifeguard management. Before visiting tidal flats or rocks, check the tide and wear shoes with good grip; do not go alone after dark.
