Plan at a glance
Location and how to get in
Zhangzhou Museum is at the Yuanshan Cultural Center, at the intersection of West Ring Road and Hupo Road in Zhangzhou High-tech Zone. It is not inside the old town and not on Dongshan Island; the drive from Dongshan Island takes about 1.5-2 hours. The commonly used entrance is the museum's west gate, marked by large ant and mechanical panda sculptures; setting the taxi destination as "West Gate" is more reliable.
Tickets and reservations
The permanent exhibitions are free, but you need to reserve through the official WeChat account or register by scanning a QR code on site. Special exhibitions on the third floor are charged separately; for example, the regular ticket for the Old Summer Palace bronze animal heads exhibition is about CNY 48. Reservation rules and special exhibition content follow the day.
Opening hours
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00-17:00 in winter or 17:30 in summer, with entry stopping about half an hour before closing. It is closed on Mondays except during statutory holidays. Exact opening and closing times follow the museum's announcements.

Zhangzhou kiln ceramics hall
The Zhangzhou kiln hall reproduces the blue-and-white porcelain roof of a Lisbon palace in Portugal and is the museum's most recognizable gallery. Look closely at the porcelain patterns and firing techniques, but do not use flash when photographing.
Maritime Silk Road and Zhangzhou-Taiwan halls
The Maritime Silk Road hall has a 1:1 model of a Ming dynasty Yuegang merchant ship, celadon from the Shengbeyu shipwreck, and an interactive underwater archaeology screen. The Zhangzhou-Taiwan hall uses genealogies, migration maps, and architectural models to show the family and migration links between Zhangzhou and Taiwan.
Sculpture hall and who it suits
The sculpture hall holds puppet carvings, stone carvings, and wood carvings with bold, expressive forms and clear Minnan character. The museum suits history and culture fans, families, and visitors who want a quick overview of Zhangzhou culture. The halls are numerous, so take the guide leaflet and plan a route first.
Build your day
Quick route (about 1.5 hours)
Enter from the west gate, visit the first-floor history and Maritime Silk Road halls first, go up to the second-floor Zhangzhou kiln hall, then see the third-floor sculpture hall, and visit the gift shop before leaving. When time is tight, prioritise the Zhangzhou kiln hall and the Maritime Silk Road hall.
In-depth route (about 2.5-3 hours)
On the first floor see history and maritime trade, on the second floor see the Zhangzhou-Taiwan hall and the kiln hall, and on the third floor see calligraphy and sculpture; add the special exhibition if it is open. Outside, the courtyard's red-brick walls, glass dome, and water pool are also good for photographs.
Three-hall route (about half a day)
The art gallery and city exhibition hall are next to the museum, so you can connect several cultural venues in about half a day. Reservations, closures, and opening times differ by venue, so confirm each one separately before going.
Get there
High-speed rail and buses
After high-speed rail to Zhangzhou Station, a taxi takes about 20 minutes; the K1 bus also reaches the area. You can take Bus 36 to the "Zhangzhou Three Halls" stop and walk about 10 minutes.
Driving and parking
Self-drivers can navigate to "Zhangzhou Museum." Large free square parking lots are nearby, including P1, P2, and P6. Do not park at roadside spots where people solicit drivers, and follow the on-site parking signs.
Confirm the entrance
Taxi drivers often stop at the east gate, but the main entrance is the west gate, and reaching it from the east means going around half the building. Set the destination as "West Gate" or "the big ant sculpture" to save time.
Know before you go
Reservations and entry
The permanent exhibitions are free but require a reservation or on-site registration, and special exhibitions are charged separately. Special exhibitions have long queues on holidays, so arrive at a quieter time or buy a ticket in advance. Have your reservation information ready before entering.
Gallery changes
Some special galleries may be temporarily closed for installation or maintenance. Take the guide leaflet when you enter and confirm which halls are open that day; do not put closed halls into your route.
Visiting rules
Food and drink are not allowed inside, and flash photography is prohibited. The audio guide requires a deposit of about CNY 200; free guided tours are usually offered at 10:00 and 15:30, but follow the day's arrangement.
Time planning
The museum is closed on Mondays, and entry stops relatively early in the afternoon, so do not schedule it for the evening. The museum and the old town are in different areas; if you visit both in one day, calculate the travel time first, and it is usually better to put the old town after the museum.
