Plan this as a mountain visit
Dinghu Mountain is in Dinghu District. Baoding Garden, Butterfly Valley, Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall are spread across the mountain. The easier route takes about 3–4 hours, while a full walking route takes 5–6 hours. Even visitors who only want Feishuitan Waterfall must enter through Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area and then use the internal transport.
The listed opening hours are 08:00–18:00, with entry and some boat ticket sales stopping at 16:30. Cars cannot enter the scenic area. Drivers should park in the official lot and enter through the main gate. Arriving early makes the rest of the route much easier to manage.
Admission, sightseeing vehicle and Butterfly Valley boat
Adult admission is listed at CNY 70, with holiday pricing sometimes at CNY 56. Students enrolled in Guangdong can enter free with the required student ID under the listed policy. The sightseeing vehicle costs about CNY 20 for a return ride, and the Butterfly Valley boat costs about CNY 35. If you will also visit Seven Star Crags, compare the total with the CNY 100 Xinghu Card.
The sightseeing vehicle removes the longest mountain sections, but you still walk between sights. This is especially true for Feishuitan Waterfall: the vehicle does not stop beside the waterfall, and the last section is on foot.

3–4 hours: the lower-effort route
Enter through the main gate and take the sightseeing vehicle to Baoding Garden. Walk to Butterfly Valley, take the vehicle to Qingyun Temple, then walk downhill to Feishuitan Waterfall and the Summer Resort before taking the vehicle out. This is the steadier option for first-time visitors and groups with older adults or children.
The Butterfly Valley boat is extra and the ride is short, so visitors on a tighter budget can use the surrounding paths instead. Even the lower-effort route includes downhill walking and steps; wear shoes for a mountain path, not a city park.
5–6 hours: walk the full mountain route
Fit visitors can walk from the main gate through Jiashatian, Hancui Bridge, Banshan Pavilion, Feishuitan Waterfall, Xiangshuitan, Shuanghong Feiqian Bridge, Qingyun Temple and Baoding Garden. This route suits people who enjoy mountain paths and streams. Start in the morning; arriving at the gate at 16:30 is too late.
The challenge is the continuous walking rather than one individual sight. Green stone, stream edges and bridges are slippery after rain, and supplies are limited. Carry enough water when you enter and cut the second half if the weather changes.
2–3 hours: a short family route
For a shorter visit, take the vehicle to Baoding Garden, then use the easier paths around Butterfly Valley, Qingyun Temple and the Summer Resort. You still get forest, architecture and mountain scenery without committing to the full stream route.
If children want to get close to the water at Feishuitan, bring shoes with good grip, sandals and spare clothes. Whether and where water play is allowed depends on the day's arrangements. Mountain paths, mosquitoes and wet ground can tire children faster than the map distance suggests.

Easier route: vehicle uphill, walking downhill
Main gate → sightseeing vehicle to Baoding Garden → Butterfly Valley → sightseeing vehicle to Qingyun Temple → walk downhill to Feishuitan Waterfall → Summer Resort stop → sightseeing vehicle out. The vehicle takes care of the long uphill section, while the main walking happens between the sights.
Baoding Garden is a useful first stop for understanding the mountain layout. Decide how long to stay at Butterfly Valley based on your interest, then leave enough time for the steps and streamside walking around Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall. Do not spend so long at the first two stops that you begin the descent near the end of vehicle service.
Walking route: do not treat the full circuit as a requirement
Main gate → Jiashatian → Hancui Bridge → Banshan Pavilion → Feishuitan Waterfall → Xiangshuitan → Shuanghong Feiqian Bridge → Qingyun Temple → Baoding Garden → exit. In hot weather, rainy conditions or a group that is tiring early, turn back at Feishuitan or Qingyun Temple. There is no need to complete the circuit at all costs.
If you want to get close to the water at Feishuitan, keep your waterproof bag and spare clothes within easy reach. After leaving the stream, you still have the return walk, vehicle ride and car collection, so wet shoes and the last vehicle matter to the afternoon plan.
Count Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan separately
Qingyun Temple is an architectural and temple stop; Feishuitan is a streamside walk and waterfall stop. Both are inside Dinghu Mountain, but the routes are different: the vehicle reaches the area around Qingyun Temple, while the final section to the waterfall is on foot.
If your time is short or your knees are not strong, walk about 1.8 km from the Summer Resort stop on the flatter route. If you want to connect the temple and waterfall, take the downhill path from Qingyun Temple, which involves about 20–30 minutes of steps. Choose according to the weather and the condition of your group.
Get there
Reach the scenic-area entrance first
Drive to “Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area Parking Lot.” The drive from the Pearl River Delta takes about 1.5–2 hours, and the official parking rate is listed at about CNY 15–20 per day. People near the entrance may direct drivers to private parking; continue to the official signs.
A taxi from Zhaoqing East Railway Station takes about 20 minutes. City buses 204 and 205 also go directly to the scenic area. Visitors without a car should plan the return in advance because the last mountain vehicle and taxis outside the entrance can be affected by crowds and weather.
Check the vehicle schedule before walking
Ask where the sightseeing vehicle stops, what the return coverage is and when the last vehicle leaves before starting the walk. The vehicle handles the long mountain road, but paths and steps remain between Butterfly Valley, Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall.
If you are walking the full route, check the remaining distance at Baoding Garden, Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan. When the end of vehicle service around 18:00 is getting close, return to the vehicle stop instead of walking farther for another photograph.
Know before you go
Mountain shoes and rainy weather
Wear shoes with good grip. For water stops at Feishuitan, bring sandals and spare clothes; the mountain has many mosquitoes and few shops, so put water, snacks and repellent in your bag before entering.
After rain, bridges, steps, stream edges and mountain paths may hold water. During heavy rain, skip the long route and stay away from the stream even if the higher water looks more dramatic. Follow the safest way back.
Costs and Qingyun Temple etiquette
The sightseeing vehicle costs about CNY 20 for a return ride, and the Butterfly Valley boat costs about CNY 35. The boat ride is short, so the surrounding paths are a reasonable alternative on a tighter budget. Entry and some boat ticket sales stop around 16:30, and the sightseeing vehicle usually stops around 18:00; do not leave the descent and car collection until the end.
Qingyun Temple is inside the mountain complex. Dress appropriately, keep quiet, do not step on thresholds and follow the photography rules inside the halls. Prayer items, vegetarian meals and other purchases are optional. Food is available near the temple, while water and snacks elsewhere in the mountain may cost more.
