The main area is around Xianyun Lake
The main visitor area of Xinghu Wetland Park is Xianyun Lake. For navigation, use “Xinghu National Wetland Park” or the north gate of Seven Star Crags. Allow 2–4 hours for the wetland visit. If you are also visiting Seven Star Crags, plan at least half a day and do not schedule the boat connection too tightly.
The listed opening hours are 07:30–17:30, and the wetland boats usually stop selling tickets around 16:30. The boat ride is the main way to see the islands and bird areas; a walk along the shore alone will miss much of the park’s main content.
Check the admission ticket and boat ticket separately
Admission to the wetland park is included with the Seven Star Crags entrance ticket, listed at about CNY 70 for adults. If you expect to return to the Xinghu areas during the year, compare this with the CNY 100 “Happy 100 Xinghu Card.” The wetland sightseeing boat costs about CNY 70 per person and takes around 1–1.5 hours, with 2–3 island stops. It is separate from the entrance ticket.
Tickets can be purchased in advance through the “Weixinghu” or “Yijianyou Xinghu” mini-programs. For weekends, reserve a boat place if possible. Buying admission without planning the boat can leave you waiting for the next departure.

Two hours: birds and lake views
When time is short, take the boat directly to Flamingo Island and Red-Crowned Crane Island, then continue to Chudong Cave and Guanfodao Island before returning to the pier. This keeps the main bird, boat and lake-view stops together and suits visitors who want a straightforward introduction.
Bird activity is usually easier to observe around 10:00–11:00 and 15:00–16:00. For a calmer visit, enter around 09:00–10:00, deal with the boat ticket first and then walk around the islands at your own pace.
Three to four hours: the fuller Xianyun Lake route
For a first visit, combine the Wetland Education Center, the boat ride, Flamingo Island, Red-Crowned Crane Island, Luohan Island, Queqiao Bridge, Guanfodao Island and Jinsha Beach. Jinsha Beach is a useful family stop for feeding pigeons and playing in the sand, so it needs more time than a boat-only route.
Around mid-March and mid-September, the sunset at Guanfodao Island can create the seasonal “Sleeping Buddha holding a red sun” view. The usual viewing window is around 17:30–18:00. This is close to the end of boat ticket sales, so confirm how you will return before waiting for sunset. Do not leave the final boat until after the viewing ends.
Half a day: combine it with Seven Star Crags
Enter through the north gate of Seven Star Crags, walk through the bald-cypress area, then take the boat into the wetland park and leave through the wetland entrance. The two areas are adjacent, but the internal distances are not short. If anyone in the group walks slowly, decide the exit gate and parking location before entering.
The bald cypress is more likely to change colour from December to January. This seasonal route works best during the day. If you want to have dinner at the old city wall or Qilou Street, transfer directly after leaving the park rather than returning to look for the car.
Build your day
Quick route: take the boat first
Main entrance → boat → Flamingo Island → Red-Crowned Crane Island → Chudong Cave, also known as Shidong Ancient Temple → Guanfodao Island → return pier. Check the boat schedule and waiting time before deciding how long to spend on each island.
The bird areas suit the late-morning or mid-afternoon viewing windows. Chudong Cave is an old temple built inside a cave. Moving between the boat route and the island paths takes time, so do not estimate the whole visit from the one-hour boat ride alone.
Main route: education, birds and sunset
Wetland Education Center → boat ride → Flamingo Island → Red-Crowned Crane Island → Luohan Island → Queqiao Bridge → Guanfodao Island → Jinsha Beach → return. If you want the seasonal sunset view, reach Guanfodao Island at least 15 minutes early. When the area is busy, do not wait until sunset to find a viewing position.
Jinsha Beach is not an instant stop beside every boat berth. Families can use the beach for the final part of the visit, with water and snacks kept in a day bag rather than left with the larger luggage.
Choose optional paid activities before you start
Crane feed costs about CNY 25 per portion, and pigeon corn costs about CNY 10 per bag. These are optional on-site activities. If you are keeping to a budget, give priority to the boat ticket; feeding is not needed to follow the main route.
The boats usually depart on the hour, with the last departure around 16:30. Missing a departure affects the order of the islands and your exit time, so checking the pier schedule after entering matters more than taking the first photographs.
Get there
Use the Seven Star Crags north gate or wetland parking area
For driving, use “Seven Star Crags North Gate Parking Lot” or “Wetland Park Parking Lot.” Parking is listed at about CNY 10–15 per visit. From Zhaoqing East Railway Station, a taxi takes about 20 minutes. From Zhaoqing Railway Station, the taxi ride is about seven minutes. City bus route 19 serves Xianyun Lake and the Seven Star Crags north gate.
If you are combining the wetland park with Seven Star Crags, choose the parking position with the exit direction in mind. The Xinghu area involves a lot of walking; changing gates at the last minute can take longer than walking an extra section.
The boat is the main internal transport
The wetland boat ride takes about 1–1.5 hours and usually stops at 2–3 islands. Include boarding queues and the walking time after each stop in the schedule. Confirm the last departure before walking far from the pier.
Some paths have steps and uneven surfaces, so large strollers are inconvenient. With a young child, a light folding stroller or a carrier is easier to manage, especially when boarding the boat and walking on the islands.
Know before you go
Bring water, sun protection and mosquito repellent
Mosquitoes are common around the lake and wetland, while reflections from the water make the sun feel stronger. Bring drinking water, repellent, sunscreen and a hat before entering; the boat and islands may not have convenient shops.
Rain and water levels can affect the boat route and water-side activities. If the boat service changes, use the education centre, Chudong Cave and the shore paths as alternatives rather than waiting until closing time for a departure.
Arrive early on weekends
Bird activity is usually better in the morning, while weekend and holiday boat queues are longer. Arrive around 09:00–10:00 if possible, deal with the boat ticket first and then decide whether to stay until sunset at Guanfodao Island.
The Xinghu Card, the Seven Star Crags admission ticket and the wetland boat ticket cover different things. Check whether a purchase includes the boat. If you also plan to visit Seven Star Crags or Dinghu Mountain, then compare whether the annual card is worthwhile.
