Xinghu has several separate areas
Xinghu Scenic Area includes Seven Star Crags, Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area and Xinghu Wetland Park. Each area has its own entrances, ticket arrangements, walking distances and internal transport. Xinghu Road 1 in Duanzhou District is a useful location for Seven Star Crags and the central lake district; Dinghu Mountain is in Dinghu District and requires a separate transfer.
One day is enough for Seven Star Crags and Xinghu Wetland Park if you are staying around central Zhaoqing. Dinghu Mountain, with its mountain paths, Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall, is much easier as a separate day. Trying to force all three areas into one day usually leaves little time for anything except transfers, queues and finding the way back.
Opening hours and costs
The daytime planning window for the Xinghu areas is 08:00–18:00, with entry beginning to close around 17:00–17:30. Some areas offer evening visits from 19:00–22:00, usually with registration. These evening arrangements cover limited areas and should not be treated as a continuation of the full daytime route. Adult admission for Seven Star Crags and Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area is CNY 70, with holiday pricing sometimes at CNY 56. The CNY 100 “Happy 100 Xinghu Card” is worth considering if you expect to visit several of these areas more than once in a year.
Cave cruises, wetland bamboo rafting, Butterfly Valley boat tickets and sightseeing vehicles are extra. Choose the area first, then decide whether a boat or vehicle is useful; prices from one part of Xinghu do not apply to the whole scenic system.

One day around the central lake district
Start with Seven Star Crags and allow 3–5 hours. There are many paths, so choose a route with a clear entrance and exit. If you are walking at a relaxed pace, drop a cave or a distant stop rather than spending the afternoon trying to cover every path.
Move to Xinghu Wetland Park in the afternoon and allow 2–4 hours. The wetland boat ride takes about 1–1.5 hours and usually stops selling tickets around 16:30. Arrive early if you want the bird islands or the seasonal “Sleeping Buddha” sunset view; waiting for the boat is part of the schedule.
Two days: lake district first, Dinghu Mountain second
Spend the first day at Seven Star Crags and Xinghu Wetland Park, then stay in central Zhaoqing or Yanqian Village. On the second day, visit Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area and follow its internal sequence of sightseeing vehicle, Butterfly Valley, Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall. Each area then gets enough time without repeated transfers.
This split also works well for groups with different walking abilities. Some people can stay around the lake and wetland on the first day, while those who want mountain walking can visit Dinghu Mountain the next day. The multiple gates at Seven Star Crags, the wetland boat queue and the mountain return time will not compete with each other.
Evening visits and the annual card
The 19:00–22:00 evening arrangement suits visitors who have already completed the main daytime route and only want to see the lake after dark. Some areas may be free with registration, but boats, caves, sightseeing vehicles and indoor venues may not continue operating.
If you expect to visit the areas twice or more in a year, compare the CNY 100 Xinghu Card with single-entry tickets. It does not cover boats, bamboo rafts or sightseeing vehicles; those are paid for within the relevant area.
Build your day
Central lake district: Seven Star Crags first, wetland second
Enter Seven Star Crags through the gate you selected in advance. Walk the main lake and heritage stops first, then decide whether to take a cave cruise or sightseeing vehicle. The four gates are connected, but the park is not suited to improvised wandering; decide your exit before you enter to avoid a long return walk.
In the afternoon, continue to Xinghu Wetland Park and use this order as a guide: entrance, boat, bird islands, Guanfodao Island and the return pier. Bird activity is easier to observe around 10:00–11:00 and 15:00–16:00. If you want the seasonal sunset view, reach the viewing area early and do not fill the last part of the day with a tight boat connection.
Dinghu Mountain: leave the mountain route a full day
Dinghu Mountain works better as its own day. A practical sequence is to take the sightseeing vehicle to Baoding Garden, walk to Butterfly Valley, continue to Qingyun Temple and Feishuitan Waterfall, then leave via the Summer Resort stop. The Butterfly Valley boat is optional and separately paid; decide based on your interest and budget.
Visitors who want to walk the mountain can start around Jiashatian and Hancui Bridge, then continue through Feishuitan Waterfall, Xiangshuitan, Shuanghong Feiqian Bridge, Qingyun Temple and Baoding Garden. The full route takes about 5–6 hours. If you are travelling with older adults or children, adding a long Seven Star Crags route on the same day will make the return unnecessarily tight.
Leave time for transfers and boat queues
Seven Star Crags, Xinghu Wetland Park and Dinghu Mountain require buses, taxis or the Xinghu tourist shuttle bus between them; they are not connected by a continuous walking route. During busy periods, queues for bamboo rafts, sightseeing boats and wetland boats can exceed 30 minutes. Do not schedule the last boat connection down to the minute.
Boats and sightseeing vehicles are optional. Set the route first, then pay to reduce walking on the one or two sections where it helps most. This keeps both the budget and the pace under control.
Get there
Rail to Zhaoqing, then transfer locally
The train from Guangzhou South to Zhaoqing East takes about 35 minutes. From the station, use the K01 or K02 rapid bus, or local bus routes 204 and 205, for the Xinghu area. From Zhaoqing Railway Station, Seven Star Crags is about a seven-minute taxi ride. For Dinghu Mountain, set the destination directly to the Dinghu Mountain Scenic Area parking lot or ticket area rather than entering only the Xinghu Road address.
The Xinghu tourist shuttle bus is listed at about CNY 2 per person per ride and is useful for short transfers between areas. If you need to catch a wetland boat or the last sightseeing vehicle at Dinghu Mountain, include waiting time for public transport rather than relying only on the map's driving time.
Parking should follow the day's area
For driving visitors, Seven Star Crags is best approached through the North or West Gate parking areas. Use the official parking lot for Dinghu Mountain; for the wetland, check the wetland parking area or the parking around the North Gate of Seven Star Crags. Arrive early on holidays and avoid unofficial parking guides and private fee collection around the entrances.
Xinghu is large, and moving the car from gate to gate during the same day often takes longer than walking one extra section. On a two-day visit, park once and walk or make short transfers around the central lake district on day one, then handle Dinghu Mountain parking separately on day two.
Know before you go
Tickets, food and water
The Xinghu Card is convenient if you will revisit several areas; a single ticket is simpler for a one-area visit. Admission, child and student discounts, boat tickets and sightseeing vehicles are handled separately at Seven Star Crags, Dinghu Mountain and the wetland. Check the area you are entering rather than assuming one rule covers all of Xinghu.
Food stalls and shops inside the scenic areas are limited, and prices may be higher than in the city. Bring water and snacks for long walks or boat queues. If you plan to eat in Yanqian Village or Songcheng Qilou Street, allow time to leave the area and make the evening transfer.
Leave room for weather and delays
All three areas involve outdoor walking. Bring sun protection and mosquito repellent in summer; steps, mountain paths and the waterfall area at Dinghu Mountain are especially slippery after rain. Feishuitan Waterfall activities, wetland boats and Seven Star Crags bamboo rafting can be affected by weather, water levels and same-day operations, so keep a simpler alternative route in mind.
During busy periods, enter in the morning and deal with the boat ticket or the route you care about most first. Dinghu Mountain stops entry and some boat ticket sales around 16:30, and its sightseeing vehicles usually finish around 18:00. Leave time for walking back, collecting the car and transferring out.
