Plan at a glance

This is a spread-out group of geological sites

Fengkai National Geopark covers a broad area. The main paid sites are Daban Stone, Thousand-Layer Peak and Longshan Scenic Area, while the Hejiang Greenway, Guangxin Tower and Fengchuan Ancient Town provide free or low-cost additions. The furthest sites are listed as about 7 km apart. Plan one to two days rather than treating the park as one entrance.

The main scenic areas are listed as open 08:00–18:00, with entry beginning to close around 17:00. Arrive before 15:00 if the final paid site of the day still lies ahead. Single tickets are listed at about CNY 20 for Daban Stone, CNY 30 for Thousand-Layer Peak and CNY 70 for Longshan. A combination ticket is about CNY 100 and listed as valid for two days.

Advance reservation is not compulsory. Online tickets can be scanned at the entrances. Whether a ticket is worthwhile depends on how many paid sites you will enter; some outside viewpoints around Daban Stone can be visited without buying entry.

Choose your visit

Six to eight hours: the three main geology sites

Daban Stone in the morning → lunch in Xinghua Town → Thousand-Layer Peak → Longshan caves in the evening. This covers the giant rock, sandstone peaks and karst caves and suits first-time visitors who are mainly interested in the landscape.

Each paid site needs about 1–2 hours, before adding the road transfers, parking, lunch and the guide wait at Longshan. Do not start the first site after 15:00 and expect to complete this route comfortably.

Two days and one night: free culture and geology

Day 1: Hejiang Greenway, Guangxin Tower and Fengchuan Ancient Town, followed by a stay in Jiangkou Town. Day 2: Thousand-Layer Peak, Daban Stone and Longshan. This separates river, town and geological scenery and makes parking and walking easier.

If you are travelling on a budget, make the first day the free or low-cost route and pay for the sites you most want on the second day. The three-site ticket is listed as valid for about two days, which suits visitors who do not want to rush all three into one day.

One day: a family geology route

Use Daban Stone for a simple geology introduction, Thousand-Layer Peak for shallow-water play and Longshan for the cave visit. If children prefer water or caves, remove one distant stop rather than stretching the day into the evening.

Thousand-Layer Peak and Longshan both have damp or slippery sections. Children need shoes with good grip and spare clothes. The caves are cool, so bring a light jacket as well.

Build your day

Geology route: from giant rock to cave

Daban Stone → lunch in Xinghua Town → Thousand-Layer Peak → Longshan Scenic Area. The roadside pavilions at Daban Stone are useful for a wide view, Thousand-Layer Peak provides sandstone formations and shallow-water sections, and Longshan finishes the route with the caves.

The outside view at Daban Stone may be enough without buying entry. If you do want to enter, decide according to the day’s route. At Longshan, the cave guide may require a wait, so do not treat the site as a museum where you can walk in immediately.

Free highlights route: Hejiang and the old town

Hejiang Greenway → First Bend of the Hejiang → Guangxin Tower → Fengchuan Ancient Town → Jiangkou Town. The greenway works for driving or cycling. Fengchuan Ancient Town has narrow roads; park near the river and walk through the town.

Guangxin Tower provides a view over the rivers, while the old town is better as a short stop for buildings and streets. Neither requires a large block of time, leaving the afternoon flexible for one paid scenic area if the weather is good.

Two-day route: free first, paid second

Day 1: Hejiang and Guangxin Tower. Day 2: Thousand-Layer Peak, Daban Stone and Longshan. If you want afternoon light at Daban Stone, move it to after 16:00 only if Longshan will not then be the final site that still requires a guide and a full cave visit.

If Longshan is last on the second day, allow about 30 minutes for the guide group and 1–2 hours inside the caves. Do not schedule a high-speed train, long-distance bus or fixed dinner immediately after the cave exit.

Get there

Driving makes the route much easier

The drive from the Pearl River Delta takes about 2.5–3 hours. A listed route uses the Guangfo-Zhaoqing Expressway and Huaiyu Expressway, with the Yulao exit leading toward Longshan. Daban Stone, Thousand-Layer Peak, Longshan and the Hejiang route are spread out, so driving gives you more control than waiting for local buses.

From Yunan Railway Station or Wuzhou South Railway Station, take a taxi to Fengkai County, then arrange a chartered or shared vehicle. From Fengkai Bus Station, buses serve Xinghua, Yulao and Heerkou towns, but departures are limited and waiting time must be included.

Reconfirm parking and the exit at every stop

Daban Stone, Thousand-Layer Peak and Longshan each have their own parking areas. Navigate to the official parking lot for the specific attraction. Avoid roadside private parking if the price or return location is unclear.

When changing sites several times in one day, lunch, parking and the cave-guide meeting time are all part of the transfer. Do not use the shortest map driving time as the whole schedule, especially when the final site stops entry around 17:00.

Know before you go

Supplies and footwear

Food choices around the attractions are limited, so bring water and snacks. The caves are damp, and Thousand-Layer Peak may include streams and shallow-water sections. Wear shoes with good grip and bring trekking poles or spare clothes where useful.

Stone and stream edges become more slippery after rain. In poor weather, remove one distant attraction rather than rushing between several sites and missing the final guide group.

Combination tickets, photographs and timing

Compare the three-site ticket if you plan to enter at least two paid attractions; a single ticket is simpler for one stop. The combination ticket is listed as valid for about two days, so check the included sites and entry method before buying.

The roadside pavilions at Daban Stone can provide a wide photograph without entering the paid area. The Hejiang rafts, seasonal flowers and the Longshan guide schedule depend on the season or on-site operation, so keep an alternative route available.
