Sort out the prayer route and parking first
Yuecheng Longmu Ancestral Temple is beside National Highway 321 in Yuecheng Town, Deqing County. Use “Yuecheng Longmu Ancestral Temple” or “East Gate Parking Lot” for navigation. Allow 1.5–3 hours for the visit and prayer route. Normal opening hours are 08:30–17:30; during Chinese New Year and temple-fair periods, the site may open earlier.
Adult admission is listed at CNY 50 and half price at about CNY 25. Children, older visitors and other free-entry groups follow the relevant document rules. Advance booking is normally not compulsory. You can buy through the temple account or a ticket platform, or scan to buy on site. The East Gate parking lot is listed at about CNY 15 per car.
The architecture visit and prayer route overlap. First decide whether you want to buy incense or join any extra activity, then enter the halls. This makes it easier to avoid unplanned sales and repeated charges.
Free parking does not mean roadside parking
People near the temple may direct drivers to private spaces or try to sell incense. The safer option is to use the East Gate parking lot or a regular space arranged by the temple staff. Do not park by the road and then allow the parking attendant to require a high-priced incense purchase.
There are local customs involving thresholds, the direction of incense and food. They are easy to follow once you know them, and they prevent awkward moments inside the halls.

1.5 hours: the core prayer route
Stone archway → Wulong Holy Water → main hall to pray to Longmu → turn around the stele at Longmu Tomb → second-floor Long Bed → three bells and six drums → return. This is enough when time is limited; there is no need to force every hall into the route.
Include ticket purchase, collecting incense and any queue in the 1.5-hour estimate. If someone offers to light incense or guide you, ask whether there is a charge and complete the steps yourself if you want to keep control of the budget.
Two to three hours: full prayer and architecture route
The route can include the holy-water washing area, candles and incense, Longmu Tomb, Guanyin Hall, the main hall, Cifu Hall, the dressing building, the Blessing Basin in Ende Hall, Sanxing Hall, Chengxi Academy and the three bells and six drums. The stone, brick, wood, plaster and ceramic decoration also deserves time, so this route naturally takes longer than a quick prayer visit.
If you want to touch the Long Bed, Blessing Basin or join another prayer activity, confirm whether it is separately charged. Incense packages outside the temple are listed at about CNY 38–200. A basic package is normally enough; you do not need to accept CNY 138 or CNY 188 packages because someone recommends them.
Festival periods: allow more time for crowds
During Chinese New Year and temple fairs, the temple may open as early as 06:30, but queues and parking can also increase. Arrive early and allow extra time for parking, ticket purchase, incense and entry to the main halls.
If you mainly want to see the architecture rather than complete every prayer step, avoid the busiest morning period. Look at the archway and exterior buildings first, then enter the halls according to your own plan.
Build your day
Main prayer route: follow one direction
Stone archway → Wulong Holy Water → Longmu Tomb → Guanyin Hall → main hall → Cifu Hall → dressing building and Blessing Basin → Sanxing Hall → Chengxi Academy → three bells and six drums. Check which halls and activities are open that day, then follow the on-site flow.
Longmu Tomb, the main hall and the upper-floor buildings are the places where visitors often stop longest. Prepare small change for voluntary offerings or small on-site items. If someone asks for a fixed amount or directs you to a personal payment code, refuse politely.
Architecture route: slow down for the carvings
Stone archway → coiled-dragon columns at the incense pavilion → main hall → Wulong Pavilion → outer view toward the Xijiang. The granite archway, glazed roof tiles, gable walls and dragon columns are easiest to appreciate in daylight. You do not need to spend the entire visit buying incense.
The main hall uses a “four columns not reaching the roof” timber structure. When looking at the details, do not lean on the architectural elements or step on the thresholds. Cross a threshold rather than placing your foot directly on it.
Build a day around Deqing county town
Visit the temple in the morning, eat Deqing bamboo-pole rice noodles or Tongjin wontons for lunch, then visit Deqing Academy and Sanyuan Pagoda in the afternoon. The temple is about 48 km from Deqing Academy, with a listed drive of around one hour, so these are not walkable neighbourhood stops.
Jinlin Water Town requires another transfer. Decide whether it fits the afternoon or a separate day only after checking your return direction; do not add it at the temple gate without leaving time for the drive.
Get there
Drive to the East Gate parking lot
The drive from the Pearl River Delta takes about 2–2.5 hours. Use “Yuecheng Longmu Ancestral Temple East Gate Parking Lot.” The listed parking fee is about CNY 15 per car. Avoid roadside private parking, which may come with incense sales or other requirements.
From Zhaoqing East Railway Station, the drive is listed at about one hour. From Yunfu East Railway Station, it is about 30 minutes. Visitors without a car can first travel to Deqing County, then transfer by local bus or taxi to Yuecheng Town.
Buy the ticket and collect incense after entering the area
Tickets can be arranged through the temple account, Meituan or an on-site QR code. Advance booking is normally not compulsory. Follow the signs after entering instead of accepting offers from people outside the car park.
The temple route and the commercial area outside are different. If you buy incense, use a regular shop and confirm the price. Keep parking, admission, incense and release-animal activities as separate decisions.
Know before you go

Incense packages outside are listed at about CNY 38–200, and a basic package is usually sufficient. If someone offers to light incense, guide you or set a fixed offering amount, you can refuse politely. Do not accept a service simply because it feels awkward to say no.
Animal-release activities may involve separate charges for the fish, guidance, boat travel and a further offering. If you want to pray, follow the normal temple route and do not join a roadside sales pitch.
Etiquette and food customs
When offering incense to Longmu, face the temple rather than turning your back to the hall. Step over thresholds instead of stepping on them. According to the local custom noted for the temple, avoid eating carp while making the visit.
Crowds and sun can be strong in summer and during festivals. Bring water, small change and shoes suitable for steps. Follow the photography notices and do not touch the carvings or objects used for worship.
