Treat Buddha Light Rock as a Danxia cliff hike
Buddha Light Rock is not mainly about waterfall power. Its value is the large red cliff face, Lotus Platform, tree-fern walkway, and the mountain scenery toward Wuzhu Peak.
Start with the classic Lotus Platform route
After entering from the visitor center, take the sightseeing bus to the trailhead, then walk through the tree-fern path to Lotus Platform for the main view of Buddha Light Rock. This is the most reliable route for most visitors.
Add higher viewpoints or the Wuzhu Peak direction only if you have the stamina
After Lotus Platform, you can continue higher for wider views, but there are more steps and it takes longer. With older travelers or children, reaching Lotus Platform and returning the same way is enough.
Confirm the opening status before you go
Official notices showed both temporary closure and reopening for Buddha Light Rock in June 2026, and the latest notice seen indicated it had reopened.
✦Buddha Light Rock has many steps, so wear sports shoes instead of sandals or hard-soled shoes.
✦In summer, bring water, sun protection, and insect repellent; do not rely entirely on supplies inside the scenic area.
✦If you only have half a day, prioritize Lotus Platform instead of forcing every side route.
✦Visiting Buddha Light Rock and the Great Waterfall on the same day can feel rushed, and works better with a car or hired driver.
✦Rain or temporary controls may affect Buddha Light Rock more than a normal city attraction.
