How to Visit
1

Use Doupotang as the easy short stop inside Huangguoshu

Doupotang is included in the Huangguoshu through ticket, with a short and gentle route that usually takes 40-60 minutes.

Tip:It fits well between Tianxingqiao and the Great Waterfall as a lower-effort break.
2

Walk the flat route to the front viewing platform

After entering from the sightseeing bus stop, follow the wooden walkway and stone path to the viewing platform for the most direct front view.

Tip:This area is easier than Tianxingqiao and more comfortable for older visitors and children than the Great Waterfall.
3

Do not treat it as a separate half-day destination

Doupotang's sights are concentrated, and its main value is completing the Huangguoshu waterfall group and the Journey to the West filming memory.

Tip:If time is tight, keeping Doupotang and the Great Waterfall while skipping the full Tianxingqiao route makes the day easier.
4

Use the sightseeing bus for the next stop

After the visit, return directly to the sightseeing bus stop for the Great Waterfall or the visitor center.

Tip:In peak season it usually runs about 07:00-18:30, but still leave time for bus queues later in the afternoon.
Highlights
  • Doupotang is one of the wider-topped waterfalls in the Huangguoshu waterfall group.
  • The walkway is gentle, with much less physical pressure than Tianxingqiao.
  • The front viewing platform gives a clear full view of the waterfall.
  • It is connected with the ending sequence of the 1986 TV version of Journey to the West.
  • When water volume is high, the sound is strong, but the mist is usually less demanding than at the Great Waterfall.
Insider Tips

You do not need to schedule too long here; 1 hour is usually enough.

Early morning or later afternoon is often easier for photos with fewer people.

Stone surfaces near water can still be slippery, so older visitors and children should move slowly.

If you want an easier Huangguoshu visit, Doupotang is more friendly than Tianxingqiao.

Do not spend too much time here, because the main dramatic view is still at Huangguoshu Great Waterfall.
