How to Visit
1

Buy ferry and island tickets before planning the day

Buy the ferry ticket from Beihai International Passenger Port to Weizhou Island's Xijiao Pier first, then buy the Weizhou Island entry ticket. Standard ferry tickets commonly start from CNY 150, and the island entry ticket is CNY 98.

Tip:The ferry is the real bottleneck of a Weizhou trip, so do not build the island plan before securing boat times.
2

Check the ferry schedule and return plan

Ferry schedules depend heavily on weather, sea conditions, and demand. During holidays, do not expect to buy a good ticket at the pier.

Tip:Check the departure time, vessel type, refund rules, and return sailing before paying.
3

Give the island enough time

Weizhou Island works best with 1-2 nights. It is not ideal as a few-hour check-in stop. If you only have a same-day round trip, prioritize Crocodile Mountain Scenic Area and one sunrise or sunset beach.

Tip:A very short visit spends too much of the day on transfers and too little on the coastline.
4

Choose island transport by ability

On the island, use an electric scooter, sightseeing vehicle, or hired car. If you can ride safely, an electric scooter is the most flexible option; if you cannot ride or are traveling with older visitors or children, use sightseeing vehicles or a hired car.

Tip:The island is not huge, but sights are spread out and walking between them is not practical.
5

Leave flexibility for weather

Check weather and sea conditions before leaving Beihai. Strong wind, heavy rain, or ferry suspension can disrupt the whole plan, including accommodation and return transport.

Tip:Keep bookings and the next day's schedule flexible if the weather forecast is unstable.
Highlights
  • Weizhou Island is mainly about volcanic landforms, coastline views, sunrise and sunset, and a slower island pace.
  • Crocodile Mountain Scenic Area is best for volcanic rock and the lighthouse; Wucai Beach is best for sunrise and tidal rocks; Dishui Danping and Shiluokou are better for sunset.
  • The island is not huge, but sights are spread out. You need transport rather than relying on walking.
  • On clear days, the sea, cliffs, and reefs photograph well. In cloudy, rainy, or windy weather, the experience drops noticeably.
  • If you only want an easy beach, Beihai Silver Beach is simpler. If you want a volcanic island and off-mainland feeling, Weizhou Island is more worthwhile.
Insider Tips

Do not only budget for the island entry ticket. Round-trip ferries, island transport, accommodation, and food are the real costs.

For seafood, you can buy at the market and pay a nearby restaurant to cook it. Ask clearly about cooking fees and preparation style, and pay attention to weighing.

Bring sun protection, non-slip shoes, and mosquito repellent. Many island areas have little shade, and reefs or boardwalks can be slippery.

Do not take volcanic stones, coral stones, shells, or marine resources away from the island. The coastal environment needs protection.
