Plan at a glance
There is no single main gate
The ancient city wall is in Ganzhou's Zhanggong old town and forms part of the Jiangnan Song City area. Jianchun Gate (建春门), Yongjin Gate (涌金门), Bajing Platform (八境台) and Yugu Platform (郁孤台) can all serve as nearby access points, but the sections are not always connected. If a section is closed, cleared or redirected to another exit, follow the on-site route and change sections from below.
Tickets and timing
The wall itself is currently free. Bajing Platform is free, with general hours of 08:00–20:00; Yugu Platform is also free, with general hours of 09:00–21:00, so check the notice for that day. The daytime schedule for the wall walkway and the entry times for individual towers are separate, so do not use a tower's hours as the schedule for the entire wall.
How much time to allow
Allow about 1–2 hours to walk and take photos between Jianchun Gate and Bajing Platform. Adding Yugu Platform, Yongjin Gate and Songchao Evernight City after descending takes about 2–3 hours. Most of the wall is exposed to the weather: the light is good around sunset, while summer heat and wet conditions can shorten the visit.

Jianchun Gate and Bajing Platform
Jianchun Gate is close to the Ancient Pontoon Bridge and lets you view the eastern old town from both the riverfront and the wall. Bajing Platform stands near the meeting point of the Zhang and Gong rivers and is one of the best high points along the route for climbing up or taking in the view. To frame the water, bridge and towers together, visit Jianchun Gate early in the wall walk and make Bajing Platform the main stop.
Yongjin Gate and masonry details
The arch at Yongjin Gate works well for framed photographs and is also a useful changeover point in the middle of a wall walk. The bricks, slopes and tower structure show the scale of this defensive system more clearly than an exterior view from below, making a slow walk worthwhile for visitors interested in historic buildings.
Ways to visit
Photographers can climb before sunset, photograph Jianchun Gate and the Ancient Pontoon Bridge, then continue towards Bajing Platform. Visitors who mainly want the city view can use the access point closest to Bajing Platform for a shorter stop. With older travellers or children, choose one wall section, visit Bajing Platform and descend by the same side instead of linking every slope between the entrances.
Build your day
Highlight section: about 1–2 hours
Climb at Jianchun Gate and walk north along the wall towards Bajing Platform. After photographing the river view and towers, descend, pass through Yongjin Gate and make a short stop around Yugu Platform. If Yugu Platform is close to its closing time, view it from the mountain gate and below, and keep the climb optional.
The focus of this route is the wall walk. If you also want to cross the Ancient Pontoon Bridge, descend on the Jianchun Gate side and plan that as a separate stop. To return to other parts of the old town, come down at Yongjin Gate or Jianchun Gate and continue on foot or by shared electric bike.
Evening route: about 2–3 hours
Visit Yugu Platform first, then use a nearby access point to climb the wall before sunset and walk towards Bajing Platform. Bajing Platform generally stays open until 20:00, so finish the tower visit and descend before then. After coming down, go to Songchao Evernight City for food and street views; do not continue along the wall walkway at night.
If the wall is cleared early, take photographs at Jianchun Gate, Yongjin Gate or below the wall and move the evening plan to the open street and riverfront areas. Lit towers are suitable for viewing from below; check same-day access before assuming the wall walkway is open.
Get there
Getting to a nearby entrance
Enter “Jianchun Gate” (建春门), “Yongjin Gate” (涌金门), “Bajing Platform” (八境台) or “Yugu Platform” (郁孤台) in your map app. Ganzhou Station is usually closer to the old town than Ganzhou West Station; from Ganzhou Station, you can walk, use a shared electric bike or take a short local ride to the chosen entrance.
Parking and moving around the old town
The old-town roads are narrow, and parking and taxis can be difficult around Songchao Evernight City during holidays. If driving, leave the car at your hotel or an outer old-town public car park, then walk or cycle in. Before climbing, decide where you will descend so the car is not left on the opposite side from your return route.
Know before you go
Night, weather and footwear
The wall walkway is usually cleared at night, while some towers may be lit for viewing from below. Keep a night visit to Songchao Evernight City, the Ancient Pontoon Bridge and other open areas below the wall. There is little continuous shade on the wall, so bring water and sun protection in summer; bricks and slopes are more slippery in rain, so wear flat shoes with good grip.
Tickets and safety boundaries
Bajing Platform and Yugu Platform are currently free, but their opening hours differ and maintenance may change access. Stay on open paths when photographing the wall and towers, and do not cross barriers. If you see a closed section or staff directions, descend at the nearest exit instead of looking for an unopened connection.
