Plan at a glance
Location and entrance
Yugu Platform (郁孤台) sits on the top of Helan Mountain at No. 2 Xijin Road (西津路 2 号) in Ganzhou's Zhanggong District and is one of the old town's higher viewpoints. Search for “Yugu Platform” or “Sixianfang” (四贤坊); use the Helan Mountain Gate archway (贺兰山门) as the walking entrance. The climb and viewing area begin after the steps beyond the gate.
Tickets and opening hours
Yugu Platform is currently free, with general hours of 09:00–21:00. QR check-in or registration arrangements may change, and the historic building may close temporarily for repairs. After about 18:30 is usually a better time for the lit night view, but lighting times vary by date.
How much time to allow
Allow about 30–45 minutes to climb from Helan Mountain Gate, see the statue of Xin Qiji and visit the viewing areas on the second and third floors. Adding Yangming Academy, Guangdong Guild Hall and Tianluoling Lane at the foot of the hill takes about 1–1.5 hours. Most of the steps and slopes are concentrated near the entrance. If energy is limited, shorten the street walk around the foot of the hill.

Xin Qiji's statue and the platform
The statue of Xin Qiji stands near the climbing entrance and is the first stop before the main Yugu Platform area. From the second or third floor, you can look over Ganzhou's old town towards the meeting point of the Zhang and Gong rivers. The view changes with weather and nearby obstructions.
Lattice windows, the gate and side views
The interior lattice windows frame the eaves and trees, while the third-floor railing works for wider city views. Walk up the cobbled path to the left of Helan Mountain Gate for a side view of the platform. The gate and platform stand out more after dark, but complete the climb within opening hours; a lit view from below does not mean the building can be entered at any time.
Who this works for
Yugu Platform suits visitors interested in Song poetry, local literature and high views over the old town, and it can serve as Ganzhou's main elevated stop. Photographers can visit in the morning or late afternoon to use the lattice windows, steps and side viewpoints. With older travellers or children, take the short route and keep the hilltop visit separate from the street walk below.
For the wider old-town wall route, see Ganzhou Ancient City Wall.
For a compact academy-and-red-wall visit, see Ganzhou Confucian Temple.
For the riverfront bridge crossing, see Ancient Pontoon Bridge.
Build your day
Quick route: about 30–45 minutes
Enter through the Helan Mountain Gate archway, climb the steps, visit Xin Qiji's statue and the second- or third-floor viewing area, then return by the same route. This version ends with the hilltop view and can be placed before or after another old-town itinerary without adding the ancient city wall or Songchao Evernight City.
Complete short route: about 1–1.5 hours
Start at Yangming Academy or Guangdong Guild Hall and walk through the historic area to Helan Mountain Gate. Climb to the statue and viewing areas, then descend through Tianluoling Lane and connect to Songchao Evernight City if it is open. If the platform is closed, the gate, nearby streets and lanes still provide an outdoor historic-area walk; do not enter closed sections.
Connecting to other old-town stops
Yugu Platform works well at the beginning of an evening Ancient City Wall route, followed by the wall or riverfront, or as a high viewpoint before a night visit to Songchao Evernight City. If you continue to the Ancient Pontoon Bridge or Confucian Temple, connect them from their actual entrances; the three stops are easier to enjoy as separate sections than as one forced long walk.
Get there
Navigation and walking
For a vehicle, search for “Yugu Platform” (郁孤台) or “Sixianfang” (四贤坊), then follow signs on foot to Helan Mountain Gate. Yugu Platform is within walking range of Zhanggong old town, and Ganzhou Station is usually more convenient than Ganzhou West Station; walking or using a shared electric bike is flexible for moving between old-town stops.
Parking
Parking around Helan Mountain and on the old-town roads is limited, with possible congestion during holidays. If driving, leave the car at a hotel or an outer public car park and walk in; check parking rules and availability before arriving at the gate.
Know before you go
Temporary closures, registration and night views
The historic building may close temporarily for repairs, so confirm registration and the access status before leaving. General hours are 09:00–21:00, and after about 18:30 the lights are often on for the night view; if the site clears visitors early, follow staff directions.
Steps, weather and food
The route from the gate to the platform involves a continuous climb, so wear flat shoes with good grip and take care on wet stone steps. Food is concentrated in the old town below: consider Laojiu Food Stall for hairtail casserole (带鱼煲) and braised chicken wings and feet, or Tingyuan Restaurant for stir-fried cucumber with pork tripe. Shangyou baomiguo rice cakes make a useful snack, and Gannan dishes can be ordered with no spice.
