Jiangnan Song City Historical and Cultural Tourism Area (江南宋城历史文化旅游区) is in Zhanggong District, Ganzhou. The main entrance is through Junmen Tower (军门楼), with additional access around Zao'er Lane (灶儿巷) and Jianchun Gate (建春门). Treat it as the framework for an old-town itinerary: one walking route can connect the ancient city wall, Bajing Platform, Yugu Platform, the Ancient Pontoon Bridge and the historic lanes, with each stop visited as part of the same area.
Tickets and timing
The street area itself is free to enter. Yugu Platform is free, with general hours of 09:00–21:00; Bajing Platform is also free, with general hours of 08:00–20:00. Reservations, opening hours and Monday closures for Fushougou Museum, Former Residence of Chiang Ching-kuo (蒋经国先生旧居) and other indoor or small venues may change, so check the notice for that day before setting out.
How much time to allow
A complete heritage route takes about 4–6 hours and works well as an afternoon-to-evening plan combining towers, lanes, the pontoon bridge and the night-time street area. If you only want old-town night views, allow about 2–3 hours and focus on Junmen Tower, Songchao Evernight City (宋潮不夜城), the area around Yugu Platform and the river views near Bajing Platform.

See the old-town layout and river views
Jianchun Gate, the Ancient Pontoon Bridge and Bajing Platform help first-time visitors understand Ganzhou's layout: Jianchun Gate is near the Gong River, the pontoon bridge still serves as a crossing, and Bajing Platform stands near the meeting point of the Zhang and Gong rivers. Yugu Platform sits on Helan Mountain, with a wider view than the lanes below, making it a useful high point for the old town.
See lanes, local life and the historic drainage system
Zao'er Lane preserves the walking scale of the old town's lanes and traditional buildings, with small local foods along the way. Fushougou Museum gives a more focused explanation of the Northern Song urban drainage system. Visitors interested in architecture and city history can include both during the day, while photographers can save time for Songchao Evernight City in the evening; performances, lighting and programme schedules change by date, so use that evening's notice.
Who this works for
If this is your first visit to Ganzhou and you want to understand the old town in half a day, this route is a good fit. With children or a group whose walking ability varies, choose shorter stops such as Yugu Platform, Zao'er Lane and Songchao Evernight City; photographers can place Jianchun Gate, the Ancient Pontoon Bridge and Bajing Platform around sunset, leaving indoor venues for a separate visit.

Half-day heritage route: about 4–6 hours
Start in the afternoon at Yugu Platform or Helan Mountain Gate (贺兰山门), climb up for the old-town view, then walk towards the ancient city wall and Bajing Platform; check same-day access for the towers and wall sections. Continue down to Jianchun Gate, walk to the Ancient Pontoon Bridge, cross through Zao'er Lane and finish at Songchao Evernight City for food or the evening's scheduled street activities.
This order places the higher viewpoints first and the riverfront and old lanes later. For the return trip, taxis or shared bikes are practical around Songchao Evernight City. If you add Fushougou Museum or Former Residence of Chiang Ching-kuo (蒋经国先生旧居), confirm reservations and opening days first, then adjust the time spent at Yugu Platform or Zao'er Lane.
Late-afternoon and evening short route: about 2–3 hours
Enter through Junmen Tower and begin along the main street of Songchao Evernight City. If Yugu Platform is still open, make a short visit up the hill, then continue towards the old town for river views. Bajing Platform generally stays open until 20:00, but the wall walkway is usually cleared at night; keep the evening visit to the areas below the wall, the street area and the riverfront, without planning a night climb.
Old-town lighting can usually be part of an evening plan: some lights may come on after about 18:30, while parts of the lighting may begin to switch off after 22:00. Times change with the date and activities, and performances are often concentrated from Friday to Sunday; follow the programme posted for that evening.

Navigation and outside transport
By car or taxi, navigate to “Jiangnan Song City Historical and Cultural Tourism Area” (江南宋城历史文化旅游区) or “Yugu Platform Historic Cultural Block” (郁孤台历史文化街区). For a walking entry, use Junmen Tower as the main entrance; for the eastern waterfront, navigate directly to Jianchun Gate. High-speed rail travellers can use Ganzhou West Station or Ganzhou Station, with Ganzhou Station usually closer to the old town; from there, transfer to a short local ride or continue on foot.
Moving around the old town and parking
The main stops are close together, so walking or a shared electric bike is usually the easiest way to connect them. Songchao Evernight City can become congested during holidays, and taxis may sit in traffic in the afternoon. If you must drive, leave the car at your hotel, Gannan Hotel or around Haihui Road, then walk or cycle in; parking options in Shuidong Town (水东镇), across the Ancient Pontoon Bridge, depend on same-day availability.
Route 520 “Dangdang” sightseeing bus runs between Ganzhou Railway Station and Fushougou Museum, passing Yugu Platform, Yongjin Gate, the Song City wall and Jianchun Gate. It generally operates from 08:00–21:00 and costs CNY 1; routes and frequencies may change, so check same-day transit information before boarding.

Reservations, performances and spending
Yugu Platform and Bajing Platform are currently free, with general hours of 09:00–21:00 and 08:00–20:00 respectively. Reservations, closure days and last-entry times for indoor venues need separate confirmation; street activities, lighting and performances vary by date.
Zao'er Lane and Songchao Evernight City cover meals and snacks. Gannan food is often spicy, so ask for “no spice” or “mild spice” when ordering. Local choices include sanbei chicken (三杯鸡), stuffed pork (荷包肉), Ningdu meatballs (宁都肉丸), Ruijin beef soup (瑞金牛肉汤), aimiguo rice cakes (艾米果) and huangyuan rice cakes (黄元米果); compare prices before buying local products on or near the bridge and attractions.
Walking and weather
The route combines city walls, steps, stone paving and the pontoon bridge, so wear flat shoes with good grip. The wall and riverfront have little shade in summer, so bring sun protection and rain gear. Do not plan to climb the wall at night; along the river, stay on open paths and do not cross barriers to approach the water.
