How to Visit
1

Enter through the Qarhan Salt Lake Visitor Center

Treat Wanzhang Salt Bridge as one stop within a Qarhan Salt Lake visit. Enter the lake's core visitor area through the visitor center and follow the day's admission and transport arrangements.

Tip:Park at the visitor center or another designated scenic-area car park; do not treat the roadside along the salt bridge as an unrestricted photo-stop area. Allow about 20-40 minutes for the bridge viewpoint.
2

Use the scenic area's arranged transport to reach the viewing zone

After entering, follow the scenic area's sightseeing transport and walking directions to the official Wanzhang Salt Bridge viewing point. Do not leave the visitor area to search for your own photo location.

Tip:Roads across the salt lake are also used by vehicles, so stop and get out only in designated viewing areas. Morning or later afternoon is more comfortable, with less harsh glare and more time to follow transport arrangements.
3

Finish at the viewpoint and return by the same route

Photograph the salt-built road and lake landscape from behind barriers, on paths, or within clearly open viewing areas, then return to the visitor center using the arranged transport.

Tip:Never linger, turn around, or take photos in traffic lanes, on road shoulders, or on unopened salt crust. Bring water, sunglasses, and sun protection: the salt surface reflects intense light and winds can be strong.
Highlights
  • A salt-built road across Qarhan Salt Lake, best understood from an authorized viewpoint where its scale and engineering setting are clear.
  • White salt crust, long road perspectives, and blocks of lake color create a distinctive highland industrial landscape.
  • Easy to combine with salt flowers, lake views, and walking areas elsewhere in Qarhan Salt Lake.
  • Official viewpoints provide a good balance of photo opportunities and road safety.
  • A practical short-stop landmark for self-drive travelers on the Qinghai-Gansu route.
Insider Tips

Do not treat this as a road where you can stop anywhere; parking, getting out, and photography must stay within designated areas.

Sun exposure and reflected glare are both strong. Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a sun-protective layer matter more here than during ordinary city sightseeing.

Bring water and simple snacks. Dining choices inside the scenic area are limited.

Allow 20-40 minutes if your focus is the viewpoint and photography; leave more time if combining it with other parts of the salt lake.

Do not cross barriers, step onto unopened salt crust, or enter a traffic lane for a photo.
