How to Visit
1

Enter with the traffic-history idea in mind

Mingyue Gorge is strongest because ancient plank roads, river transport, old roads, railway, and modern highway sit in one narrow gorge.

Tip:The visit is about layers of transport history, not only scenery.
2

Walk the lower plank-road section first

Start with the cliffside plank-road route beside the Jialing River. This is where the old Shu Road feeling is clearest.

Tip:Do this before your group gets tired.
3

Return by the upper road or sightseeing vehicle

The upper road gives wider gorge views and old road context. If traveling with children or older visitors, use the sightseeing vehicle for the return.

Tip:The vehicle option saves energy without removing the core plank-road experience.
4

Bring your own water and sun protection

Food and drink options inside the gorge are limited, and exposed sections can be hot in summer.

Tip:There are exposed sections along the gorge, so carry water before you enter instead of relying on shops inside.
Highlights
  • Ancient plank-road remains along the Jialing River
  • Six transport layers in one gorge
  • CNY 70 official scenic-area price reference
  • Good half-day trip for history and light hiking
  • Pairs naturally with Xuexi Cave or Qianfo Cliff
Insider Tips

Wear shoes with grip because plank-road and stone sections can be damp.

Use the sightseeing vehicle return if the group is tired.

Bring water and snacks.

Avoid heavy-rain days because the gorge route becomes less pleasant.

Do not compare it with a pure nature canyon; the transport history is the main reason to go.
