Location, opening hours and entrances
Fengzhu Garden is south of the junction of Ciyun Road and Xiaojiao South Road, on the northern side of West Lake. The main gate is the usual entrance, while the northwest gate is near West Lake’s Xiaobei Gate and is often quieter. The garden is free and needs no reservation. It is generally open from 6:30 to 22:00 in summer, from June to September, and from 8:00 to 22:00 in other seasons; last entry is at 21:30.
The garden centres on Lingnan landscaping, lotus ponds and lakeside buildings. One to one and a half hours is enough for a standard visit, while first-time visitors who want to explore the garden slowly and climb Changyuan Tower should allow two to three hours.
How to fit it into your day
During the summer lotus season, visit early morning or near sunset as a dedicated stop. In other seasons, it works well as a garden break within a West Lake half-day route. Families can combine Nine-Bend Bridge, koi feeding and a short garden walk at an easy pace.

Quick garden route
Main Gate → Fengyun Peak → Lotus Pavilion → Nine-Bend Bridge → exit. This takes about one to one and a half hours and covers the Taihu stone, lotus pond and key bridge views.
Full garden route
Entrance → Fengyun Peak → Lotus Pavilion → Changyuan Tower → Nine-Bend Bridge → Wulong Pavilion → Wenchang Pavilion → exit. Allow two to three hours to see the garden from above, then walk slowly between the lakeside pavilions and bridges.
West Lake half-day route
Fengzhu Garden → Nine-Bend Bridge → Dongpo Garden → Sizhou Tower → West Lake boat ride → Su Causeway → Zhuwu Alley. Visit the lotus ponds and gardens in better light, then continue to the lakeside and dinner later in the day.

Garden viewing order
From the entrance, begin with Fengyun Peak and its Taihu stone, then continue to Lotus Pavilion, Nine-Bend Bridge and Changyuan Tower. Nine-Bend Bridge provides views of the lotus pond, lake-centre pavilion and distant Sizhou Tower, while the second-floor terrace of Changyuan Tower looks over the garden and towards West Lake.
Lotus-season timing
June to August is the main lotus period, with July generally at its fullest. Visit from 6:30 to 9:00 for fewer visitors and gentler light on the leaves and water, or from 17:00 to 19:00 for sunset light on the bridge, pavilions and pond.
Family stop
Nine-Bend Bridge and the koi pond work well for a slower visit with children. The garden has a self-service fish-food machine, at around CNY 6 per portion. There is no need to cover every corner; leave time around the lotus pond and pavilions for breaks.
Get there
Buses and intercity rail
Bus routes 2, 5, 7, 10, 29, 36 and 209 stop at Fengzhu Garden or the Municipal Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital, followed by a short walk. From West Lake East Station Exit C, a taxi or shared e-bike takes about 10 minutes.
Driving
Fengzhu Garden Parking Lot has around 30–40 spaces and costs about CNY 5 per visit or CNY 3 per hour, with a CNY 15 daily cap. During holidays, use the nearby Junhao Hotel car park or the temporary parking area opposite Fengzhu Garden if the garden car park is full.
Know before you go
Parking, crowds and weather
Parking at the entrance is limited, particularly during the lotus festival and on weekends. Drivers should arrive before 7:30 or park outside the garden and walk in. The lotus ponds are sunny and can have mosquitoes in summer, so bring sun protection, insect repellent and a hat.
Photography and walking
Light from 16:00 to 17:00 works well for portraits and pond views on Nine-Bend Bridge, while the white walls of Wenchang Pavilion suit low-saturation colours or modern Chinese-style clothing. Walking is easy, but take care on bridges and beside the water. If you are not in a hurry, continue from the garden into West Lake on foot.
