Area, tickets and opening pattern
Nankunshan is in Longmen County National Forest Park, with Shihe Wonder, Chuanlong Waterfall, Tiantang Peak and Guanyin Pool among the main stops. The visitor centre is the primary entrance, while Shihe Wonder and Chuanlong Waterfall each have their own access points. There is no single all-area ticket.
Shihe Wonder costs CNY 69, including boating, forest activities and stream trekking; Guanyin Pool costs CNY 10 and Chuanlong Waterfall costs CNY 20. Most ticketed sites are open around 8:30–17:30, with last ticket checks around 17:00; some free stream areas are accessible all day.

2–3 hours: easy mountain-air route
Visitor Centre → Guanyin Pool → streamside water stop → farm-style meal in town → return. The route has no major climbing and is suitable for children, older visitors or travellers who want a short mountain break.
3–4 hours: Shihe Wonder route
Enter Shihe Wonder from the west gate and leave by the east gate → shallow-stream trekking → boating → forest activity course. The west and east gates are about two kilometres apart; if the car is at the west gate, return the same way or arrange transport from the east gate.
4–6 hours: waterfall and summit route
Ticket gate → Chuanlong Waterfall → Tiantang Peak → descent. Tiantang Peak is about 1,228 metres high and takes around 1.5 hours to climb, so fitness and weather need separate consideration.
Build your day
Family short route
Visitor Centre → Guanyin Pool → stream path → meal in town. Keep the focus on gentle paths, shallow-water areas and rest time rather than adding Tiantang Peak on the same day.
Shihe Wonder route
Shihe Wonder West Gate → shallow stream → boat ride → forest activity course → East Gate. If you do not want to walk about 40 minutes back to your parking area, avoid making a one-way exit without a return arrangement.
Self-drive connection
Huizhou Route 218 → Xiangang Reservoir stop → Lüping Stone Beach → Route 218 slope stop → Xiangxi Valley → Nankunshan. This is best as a self-drive day with short stops, using Nankunshan as the final mountain or overnight area.
Get there
Driving first
From Guangzhou or Shenzhen, allow about 1.5–2.5 hours via the Yonghan exit of the Guanghe Expressway. The mountain roads have many bends and some narrow sections, making them better for drivers comfortable on mountain roads.
Public transport
Take high-speed rail to Longmen Station and continue by taxi, or take Guangzhou Metro Line 21 to Zengcheng Square, transfer to a bus for Yonghan Bus Station, then arrange the final ascent. The multiple connections make public transport less suitable for a rushed day trip.
Know before you go
Ticket types, parking and lodging
Different sub-sites charge separately, so do not plan Nankunshan as a single-ticket attraction. Parking is tight during summer and weekends; enter the mountain before 8:00 where possible. Scenic-area car parks charge around CNY 10 per day, while town restaurants and Route 218 stops can also provide parking.
Rainy weather, equipment and supplies
Mountain sun and mosquitoes are both strong; stream routes need non-slip shoes, long sleeves, sun protection and insect repellent. Rocks become slippery in wet weather, so waterproof shoe covers are useful. Supplies are limited and more expensive in the mountains, so carry around two litres of water and energy snacks.
