Plan at a glance
Location and operating status
186 Ribbon River (186彩带河) is near the 186-kilometer marker on the border highway in Chen Barag Banner. In your map app, search for “186彩带河景区” (186 Ribbon River Scenic Area). As of 2026-10-20, the scenic-area page lists it as closed, with reopening date to be announced. Before visiting after it reopens, confirm that day’s hours, last entry, and which hilltop activities are operating.
Visit time after reopening
Once the scenic area has reopened and confirmed it is open that day, allow about 1.5–2 hours on site, mainly for the uphill ride, river views, and grass slide. It is a stop on a longer driving route; hours and sunset plans in older guides are not a promise of current access.

Choose your visit
View the Ergun River from the platform
The hilltop platform looks down on the river as it curves through the grassland and offers open views along the border highway. It is a good place for a panorama. Border controls apply along both banks; view the river only from open platforms and areas permitted by staff.
Grass slide and hilltop swing
The main activities are a long grass slide and a swing at the summit. The slide start also makes a good backdrop for grassland photos. Check whether the slide is open, its actual length, height or age limits, and the fee under that day’s rules. Queues can be long in peak season.
Choose between a quiet view and activities
If you prefer not to try the thrill rides, spend time at the viewing platform and on a short walk. If you want the grass slide, allow time for the queue. The summit is open and exposed, so watch the wind when photographing the river and grassland; do not cross barriers or walk onto closed slopes.
Build your day
Short visit after reopening, about 1.5–2 hours
Only after the scenic area has formally reopened and confirmed it is open that day, enter through the official gate and take the sightseeing bus uphill under that day’s ticket rules. Visit the platform first, then choose the hilltop swing according to the on-site route. If open and allowed by the activity rules, the grass slide can be the downhill experience. If you skip the slide, return to the entrance using the transport designated by the operator. Fit the visit within ticket-sales and closing times.
Combine with Ergun Wetland Scenic Area after reopening
Only after 186 Ribbon River has reopened, consider visiting Ergun Wetland Scenic Area in the morning and driving to 186 Ribbon River in the afternoon. Check the day’s navigation time and make sure there is enough opening time left on arrival. If you cannot finish before closing, skip this stop or stay overnight in Heishantou; do not enter or remain in a closed area for sunset.
Get there
Drive to the official entrance after reopening
After the scenic area reopens, the drive from Hailar is about 200 km; estimate the actual time using that day’s route and road conditions. Search for “186彩带河景区” (186 Ribbon River Scenic Area) and navigate to the official entrance. The information line is 17800698186; confirm opening, transport, and return arrangements before setting out. Follow road and border-control signs along the highway; do not drive onto unauthorized roads or stop in undesignated areas to find a viewpoint.
Arrange a hired car and return trip
If you are not driving, agree with the driver on the pickup time and final lodging location in advance rather than relying on an on-demand ride. Heishantou is about 60 km from the scenic area and can be a place to stay or restock. Night driving and that day’s weather affect the trip, so confirm a workable return plan with the driver before leaving.
Know before you go
Confirm opening and ticket details for the day
Public listings show different opening dates, hours, and activity prices. Ask the scenic area whether it is receiving visitors, whether admission includes the sightseeing bus, whether the grass slide is open, and what each activity costs that day. Do not budget from the old CNY 20 admission or CNY 100 grass-slide prices.
Sunset plans must fit the closing time
The summit can be windy and cool in the evening; bring a warm windproof layer and sun protection. Plan for sunset only while the scenic area is open and there is enough time to return. Do not enter or stay after closing, and do not enter while the area is unattended.
Food and border safety
The scenic area has previously had a Mammoth Restaurant and a container restaurant; check in advance whether they are operating. You can also stock up on water and food in Ergun or Heishantou. Do not extend the route into border-control areas, private pasture, or unauthorized wild viewpoints; stay within officially open areas when taking photos.
