Plan at a glance
A hilltop wetland viewpoint northwest of town
Ergun Wetland Scenic Area (额尔古纳湿地景区) is northwest of Labudalin Subdistrict, about 3 km from central Ergun. Search for “额尔古纳湿地景区” (Ergun Wetland Scenic Area). Its main experience is looking down from a hilltop over Mati Island (马蹄岛), Tongxin Island (同心岛), and the S-bend of the Gen River (根河). It is separate from Ergun National Wetland Park, where visitors first take a bus and then walk on boardwalks into the wetland.
Tickets, discounts, and entry hours
Ticket prices vary by season: CNY 65 in peak season, May 16–September 15, and CNY 20 in the off-season, September 16–May 15. The sightseeing bus is sold separately. Discounted admission is available for visitors aged 60 and over; check the conditions and accepted ID for the ticket you select. The ticket page also lists a ticket type for children under 1.2 m. The municipal page lists opening hours of 08:00–17:30 but no separate last-entry time, so confirm the ticket-sales cutoff before arriving late.

Choose your visit
Three wetland landmarks from the main peak
The main-peak viewpoint is the best place to see Mati Island, Tongxin Island, and the S-bend of the Gen River together. If time is limited, take the bus straight to the main peak, stop for photos, and return the same way to the bus stop for a quick visit.
See the valley from the loop boardwalk
For more viewpoints, walk downhill from the main peak on the loop boardwalk to see the wetland and river from different heights. If you have limited stamina, turn back from the main peak. The west-side sunset platform is suited to an afternoon visit; the scenic area closes at 17:30, so return according to that day’s shuttle schedule.
Build your day
Main peak and back, about 1–1.5 hours
Buy a ticket at the official entrance and take the sightseeing bus to the hilltop. Visit the main-peak viewpoint for Mati Island, Tongxin Island, and the S-bend, then return by the same route to the bus stop and take the bus down. Allow about 1–1.5 hours. If arriving in the afternoon, first ask when ticket sales end and when the last bus goes uphill, then plan to leave before the 17:30 closing time.
Loop boardwalk, about 2–3 hours
Take the bus to the main peak, spend time at the viewpoint, then walk downhill on the loop boardwalk for views from different heights. Finish at the lower bus stop and leave by bus. Allow about 2–3 hours. If the park opens late or you arrive near closing, skip the full loop until you have confirmed the trail and return-bus schedule.
Get there
Short taxi ride from town
The official entrance is about 3 km from central Ergun; a taxi costs around CNY 15. Return taxis are scarce. Arrange a pickup with your driver when you arrive or confirm another way back in advance; do not wait until after closing to look for a ride.
Long-distance drive or through bus
The drive takes about 2 hours from Hailar or 1.5 hours from Heishantou. Navigate to the official entrance of “额尔古纳湿地景区” (Ergun Wetland Scenic Area). A through bus from the Genhe direction may stop near Xiao Wuergen (小乌尔根), but confirm the stop, whether it passes the entrance, and the return service with the operator; do not rely on it as a regular shuttle.
Know before you go
Plan sunrise and sunset photos around opening hours
The main peak is good for wetland panoramas, but sunrise mist often appears before the 08:00 opening time; enter only during opening hours. The west-side platform offers evening light while the park is open. The municipal page lists a 17:30 closing time, and sunset varies by season, so keep photography within opening hours and return according to the shuttle rules.
Midday light is strong and can flatten the valley; light is usually softer after 16:30, though sunset time changes by season. Return to the shuttle stop before the 17:30 closing time. No separate last-entry time is listed, so ask the ticket office about the day’s cutoff and return bus if arriving late. An ordinary ticket does not permit entry before opening or after closing.
Avoid unofficial photo spots beyond fences
The hillside around the “Fourth Production Team” has fences, roads, and uncertain fee arrangements, so it is not a free alternative entrance or photo route. Use only the scenic area’s open bus and boardwalk routes; do not cross fences, private land, or closed paths.
Ask about facilities before buying a ticket
If someone in your group needs an accessible route, fewer steps, or a restroom, ask whether the main peak, boardwalk, and bus stops can provide those facilities. Check parking fees and rest areas in the entrance notice rather than assuming they match other attractions.
