Plan at a glance
Two connected city parks
Riverside Park follows the Songhua River, with a path about 5 km long. The Flood Control Memorial Tower is the easiest landmark to use for navigation. There is no single entrance or ticket gate, so you can take a free-form walk through the city and decide how far to go as you walk.
Tickets and seasonal activities
Riverside Park and Xilin Park are both free and open all day. Ice and Snow World is inside Riverside Park and may operate in winter. The ice and snow displays, rides, prices, and operating dates can change each year, so check the current season's arrangements before you go.

The Flood Control Memorial Tower and riverside landmarks
From the Flood Control Memorial Tower, walk east along the river past 知青文化广场 (Educated Youth Cultural Square) and 铁锚广场 (Anchor Square), then continue to 灯塔广场 (Lighthouse Square). Sculptures and reliefs at 知青文化广场 recall the local history of sent-down youth. 铁锚广场 and 灯塔广场 provide clear stopping points along the route.
The memorial grounds at Xilin Park
Xilin Park was established in 1940 and named after Sun Xilin, who died during the liberation of Jiamusi. The 烈士纪念塔 (Martyrs' Memorial Tower) in the park was built in 1949. It is a place for a quiet walk; keep a respectful tone around the memorial and avoid disrupting the grounds while taking photographs.
Winter displays and rides
When the winter season is operating, the park may have ice sculptures, snow sculptures, and separately charged rides. Slides, snow tubes, and other activities can change from year to year. Plan the summer river walk and winter display area as separate visits.
Build your day
A one-hour riverside walk
Start at 防洪纪念塔广场 (the Flood Control Memorial Tower plaza), look at the tower and the Songhua River, then follow the main path for a short distance and turn back. If you only want a relaxed walk, make 知青文化广场 (Educated Youth Cultural Square) your turnaround point; there is no need to cover the full 5 km route.
A two-to-three-hour walk along the river
From 防洪纪念塔 (the Flood Control Memorial Tower), walk east past 知青文化广场 (Educated Youth Cultural Square) and 铁锚广场 (Anchor Square) to 灯塔广场 (Lighthouse Square). If you feel like going farther, continue along the cycling path. The full route is about 5 km. Set your pace as you go, then return to the city along the same route or by local transport.
Add Xilin Park
Enter 西林公园南门 (Xilin Park's south gate) and visit the Martyrs' Memorial Tower, then leave through 西林公园西门 or 西林公园北门 (Xilin Park's west or north gate) and walk to Riverside Park. Apricot blossoms may be visible from late April to early May, depending on the weather. In summer, the shade is a good place to pause.
Get there
Navigation and local transport
For the riverside walk, navigate to “防洪纪念塔 (Flood Control Memorial Tower)” or “沿江公园 (Riverside Park).” For Xilin Park, search “西林公园 (Xilin Park)”; it is also within walking distance from the railway station area. Buses 1 and 5 serve 沿江公园 (Riverside Park); check which stop is closest to your entrance. A taxi from the city center or railway station takes about 10–15 minutes.
Parking and getting around
Paid parking is available along Riverside Park, including at Jingjie Parking Lot; check the posted rate. The full route is about 5 km, and shared bikes can reduce the amount of walking. There is no single park exit, so use the plaza or parking area where you finish as your return-trip destination.
Know before you go
Winter conditions, the riverbank and photography
The evening light over the river is good for photography, and the Flood Control Memorial Tower and Educated Youth Cultural Square offer clear architectural and relief details to photograph. Lighting and access to winter activities depend on the season's arrangements. Do not enter closed riverbank areas, the river, the ice, or other restricted areas.
Food and rest stops
Along the route or back in the city, consider Dadi Yilan Old-Style Ice Cream (大地依兰老冰糕), Youfang Hutong (油坊胡同), or Luanniao Bookstore (鸾鸟书店). Youfang Hutong serves snacks such as grilled chicken rack (鸡架) and grilled cold noodles. Near Xilin Park, Ximen Laotou Clay-Pot Restaurant (西门老头砂锅) and Beiji Cold Drinks (北极冷饮) are options for a simple meal or a cold drink. Dadi Yilan is a convenient stop for ice cream, while Luanniao Bookstore serves coffee. Much of the riverside path has little shade, so bring water and sun protection in summer, and windproof warm layers in winter. Treat the Martyrs' Memorial Tower near Xilin Park as a place for remembrance and learning about local history.
