Cultural area and museum
Aoqi Bay is in Aoqi Town on the outskirts of Jiamusi. Its exhibits introduce Hezhen fish-skin craft and traditional fishing and hunting life. Entry to the scenic area is free; check the day's opening and last-entry times before visiting. The Jiamusi Suburban Hezhen Museum (佳木斯郊区赫哲族博物馆) is inside the area and is the main indoor stop.
Museum hours and separately charged activities
The museum has previously listed summer hours of 08:30–17:30 from June 28 to August 25; hours for other seasons need to be confirmed. Intangible cultural heritage workshops, boat rides, wetland rafting, and the nearby water park are not included with free entry. Check the price of each activity before joining.

Fish-skin craft and fishing-and-hunting exhibits
The Jiamusi Suburban Hezhen Museum displays fish-skin clothing and handicrafts, along with material on traditional fishing and hunting. Some hands-on activities may be available. Look for how the material is prepared, the patterns are made, and the finished pieces are used. Ask on arrival whether an instructor is available and whether the activity has a fee.
Hezhen New Village and the riverfront
The scenic area includes Hezhen New Village and display structures such as cuoluozi. They can be visited alongside the museum. Boat rides on the Heilongjiang River and wetland rafting depend on seasonal operations, so check before setting out.
Summer water park
Longyuan Hezhen Water Park is next to the main scenic area and is a separately ticketed summer option for families. It has a large funnel slide, a wave pool, and a children's splash area. The water park is not included with admission to the cultural area, and its operating months, facilities, and activities change each year.
For a riverside Hezhen cultural resort farther east, see Jiejinkou Hezhen Resort.
For another Hezhen village and exhibition-hall visit, see Zhuaji Hezhen Village.
Build your day
A one-hour cultural visit
From the main entrance, visit the Hezhen Museum first to see the fish-skin clothing and handicraft exhibits, then walk to Hezhen New Village to look at the display buildings. If you plan to go inside the museum, visit in the first half of the day and confirm its hours in advance.
A three-to-four-hour visit
Start at the museum, then spend time in the village. Join a handicraft activity if it has been booked or is operating on the day. In the afternoon, you can consider a river boat ride, rafting, or another seasonal activity. Return to the main entrance before leaving; each activity is ticketed separately, and its duration depends on the day's operation.
Add water-park time for families
If the water park is open during hot weather, visit the cultural area first, then buy a separate ticket for the park next door. If water activities are the main reason for your visit, follow the water park's own entry, height, and weather rules rather than fitting its activities into the free scenic-area walk.
Get there
Getting to Aoqi Town
Navigate to “敖其湾赫哲族旅游区 (Aoqi Bay Hezhen Cultural Area).” The entrance is near Highway 221 (221国道) and the 敖其湾收费站 (Aoqi Bay toll station). Driving from central Jiamusi takes about 1.5 hours. If you take a taxi, confirm the fare for your actual pickup point and arrange your return ride in advance.
Public transport and parking
Public transport to Aoqi Town is limited, and there is no dependable direct service to the scenic area. The water park has free parking. If you drive, follow the parking directions for each area; do not assume the cultural area and the water park share a parking lot.
Know before you go
Community etiquette and border-area rules
Hezhen people are a living local community. Respect residents' daily lives, ask before photographing residents, craftspeople, or public events, and do not enter private yards. The area is near the border: do not use drones or move toward non-public riverbanks or restricted areas.
Food, weather, and activity safety
Raw fish is part of local cuisine, but it is not suitable for everyone; choose cooked fish or grilled fish if you prefer to avoid raw food. The riverfront can be windy and buggy in summer, so bring insect repellent and a light jacket. At water attractions, follow posted height, weather, and safety rules, and supervise children.
