Enter from the visitor centre

Diaoyuan Ancient Village is in Diaoyuan Village, Xingqiao Town, Ji’an. Navigate to the “Diaoyuan Ancient Village Visitor Centre”; the entrance is marked by the Shili Fangfei (十里芳菲) sign. The public areas are open throughout the day, admission is CNY 30, and you can buy a ticket on site without booking in advance.

Teachers, children under 1.2 metres, and other eligible visitors may have free or discounted admission. Bring the relevant documents and check the day’s ticket rules; group-buying prices and special offers can change.

Half a day or a full day

The main buildings and village-history stops take about 1–2 hours. Adding the Starry Sky Terrace, the old camphor grove, and time at the pondside teahouse takes about 3–4 hours. Half a day to a full day allows a slower visit; if you arrive late, first confirm the day’s ticket-sales hours and the areas still open to visitors.

Ouyang Ancestral Hall and Gan-style architecture

Ouyang Ancestral Hall, also called Dunxu Hall, is the village’s clearest architectural highlight. Its distinctive courtyard layout resembles the Chinese character 品, making it easier to see how the halls and open space relate to one another. Diaoyuan has more than 150 Ming- and Qing-dynasty Gan-style buildings arranged around a Bagua-inspired layout, so visitors interested in clan architecture can focus on the halls, courtyards, and lanes together.

The memorial arch, manor, and camphor grove

The Zhongjiedi Memorial Archway (忠节第牌坊), Ba Laoye Manor (八老爷庄园) and Village History Museum, and the old camphor grove form a second cultural walking line. This group emphasises village history, gateways, and shaded paths rather than the courtyard structure of Ouyang Ancestral Hall, and it works well for families who prefer level walking.

Starry Sky Terrace and the pond cluster

The Starry Sky Terrace is a good place for a village panorama in the early morning or late afternoon. The camphor-grove path works well for tree-shadow and portrait photography, while the pond cluster offers reflections. Alongside the water, the ancestral hall, memorial arch, manor, and old camphor grove are the main stops.

Build your day

The 1–2 hour main-building route

From the visitor centre, follow the signs to Ouyang Ancestral Hall (Dunxu Hall), the Qixing Banyue pond cluster, the Zhongjiedi Memorial Archway (忠节第牌坊), Ba Laoye Manor (八老爷庄园) and Village History Museum, and finally the old camphor grove. Most of the village paths are level stone paving, so this route lets you complete the main architecture and history stops before deciding whether to stay longer.

The 3–4 hour slower route

Add the Starry Sky Terrace to the main-building route, slow down in the old camphor grove, or rest at the pondside teahouse. The opening of activity points such as craft workshops follows the day’s arrangements, so base the route on the main buildings and add activities when they are available.

Plan the return journey

The 601 bus followed by the 103 sightseeing bus has limited and irregular service. A taxi is easier to find on the way in, but a ride back may be harder to arrange; visitors without a car should organise the return vehicle in advance. Drivers can return directly to the village entrance car park.

Get there

Driving from Ji’an or Ji’an West Station

Driving from central Ji’an or Ji’an West Station takes about 20–30 minutes. Navigate to the Diaoyuan Ancient Village Visitor Centre; the village entrance has a free car park. This makes Diaoyuan practical as a half-day self-drive stop before continuing in the direction of your return journey.

Bus and taxi options

The public-transport option is bus 601 followed by the 103 sightseeing bus, but service is limited and not reliably on time. A taxi or ride-hailing car is more practical for the outward journey; before entering the village, arrange a confirmed vehicle for the return.

Know before you go

Signs, activities, and walking

The stone-paved paths are generally level, but some signs are unclear and internal activity points such as craft workshops may take time to find. Holiday activities may be reduced or cancelled, and staff arrangements can change, so check what is open when you arrive.

Food and spending

Food in the village is usually more expensive than in the city. Taozui Diaoyuan Restaurant (陶醉钓源餐厅) and Shili Fangfei Restaurant are possible on-site choices, or you can eat Ji’an fried rice noodles in the city before entering. Check the menu and prices before ordering; holiday food supply, special offers, and individual dishes can change.
