Park and entrances

Jieyang Rongjiang West Lake Park is at No. 1 Xihuan Road in Rongcheng District, near the old-city area. The north gate is close to the Double Elephant Playing in Water sculpture, and there is another entrance beside the car park on the northwest side. The park is free, no reservation is required, and the public opening hours are 06:00–22:00.

Museum opening hours

West Lake Art Museum is not open for the full park schedule. It usually has timed sessions from 09:30–11:30 and 14:00–17:30 and is closed on Mondays. Boats and other play facilities may charge separately, so free park admission does not mean that every activity is free.

How long to allow

Allow about 1.5 hours for the lake pavilion, Nine-Bend Bridge, the main lawn and Litchi Bridge. First-time visitors who want to include the art museum, the bald-cypress path, Shoude Charity Association and Liyuan Sand Pool should allow about three hours. Add another half-day if you also want to continue into the old city on foot.

Nine-Bend Bridge, the lake pavilion and the water

Nine-Bend Bridge and the two-level lake pavilion are the park’s most recognisable structures. Their green tiles, red columns and reflections are useful from both the bridge and the lakeside. The area works well for architecture-and-water photos; Hanfu or light-coloured clothing can suit the composition, but keep the bridge clear for other visitors.

The lawn and bald-cypress path

The renovated park retains a large open lawn for picnics, kites and outdoor play with children. The bald-cypress path is more likely to show red leaves in autumn and winter, and the light is softer after around 16:30. If you want a quieter frame, arrive before the busier period.

The art museum and cultural content

West Lake Art Museum combines Chaoshan rooflines with a modern glass curtain wall. Exhibitions commonly include Chaoshan painting, calligraphy and intangible cultural heritage works. Shoude Charity Association, the former site associated with “South Lake Fisherman’s Song” and the zodiac bronze statues can be placed along the park route, but the museum’s time slot must be planned separately.

Build your day

The 1.5-hour quick route

Enter through the north gate, see the Double Elephant Playing in Water sculpture, cross Nine-Bend Bridge to the lake pavilion, pass the large lawn and leave in the direction of Litchi Bridge. This works well for a short morning or evening stop and covers the park’s main structures without spreading the walk too widely.

The three-hour full route

Follow this direction: Double Elephant Playing in Water → Nine-Bend Bridge → large lawn → West Lake Art Museum → Shoude Charity Association → zodiac bronze statues → bald-cypress path → Liyuan Sand Pool → car park. If you plan to enter the museum, fit the route around the 09:30–11:30 or 14:00–17:30 session. On Mondays, use an outdoor-only route instead.

The half-day old-city combination

Visitors who enjoy heritage walks can start at Rongjiang West Lake, walk about 700 metres to Jinxian Gate Tower, then continue to Jieyang Confucian Temple, Zhongshan Arcade Street and Shuangfeng Temple for the evening view. The full route can be walked or covered by shared electric bicycle. This combines a park with the old city, so plan the opening hours of the park and each attraction separately.

Get there

Bus, rail and driving

Take bus routes 5, 8, 10 or 30 to West Lake Park Station. A taxi from Jieyang Railway Station takes about 20 minutes. By car, navigate to “Rongjiang West Lake Park”; the northwest parking entrance is useful for reaching the park’s outer paths.

Parking and walking in the park

The ground-level car park on the northwest side is usually free, but spaces are limited. On public holidays, consider public or other green transport, or use a nearby paid car park and budget around CNY 5 per hour. The park is large, so allow time to return to the exit or car park rather than estimating the whole visit from the lake-centre distance alone.

Know before you go

Sun, insects and supplies

The park has substantial water and vegetation, so mosquitoes can be noticeable; bring insect repellent. Shade is limited along the lake, and summer visits require sun protection. A power bank, picnic mat and empty water bottle are useful. There are small stalls, but carrying your own water is usually easier.

Timing

Morning or evening light is softer on the lake, while midday heat and glare make the walk less comfortable. The bald-cypress path can be busy in the afternoon, so arrive earlier if you want a quieter photo. If you plan to visit the art museum, follow its timed sessions rather than treating the park’s 06:00–22:00 schedule as the museum’s opening time.

Paid facilities and onward travel

The park itself is free, while boats and other recreational facilities may charge separately and may vary by date. The park is close to Jieyang Ancient City, so Jinxian Gate, the Confucian Temple, Zhongshan Arcade Street and Shuangfeng Temple are possible onward directions. Do not apply the park’s opening hours, parking conditions or museum sessions to those separate attractions.
