Location, entrances, and time needed
Baotu Spring Scenic Area is at 1 Baotuquan South Road in Lixia District. The south gate is closest to the main spring and is usually less crowded than the east and north gates; it is also the most convenient gate if you plan to visit Five Dragon Pool on the same day. The grounds are mostly flat: allow 40–60 minutes for the main spring, or 2–3 hours for a first full visit.
Tickets and who it suits
Adult tickets cost CNY 40 and student tickets cost CNY 20. There is no advance reservation and no paper ticket; buy online through the “Tianxia First Spring” WeChat account or scan to pay at the entrance, then enter after purchase. The scenic area is open 07:00–19:00, with last entry at 19:00.
This is a good stop for visitors interested in Jinan’s springs and local culture, as well as for photography and an easy city walk. The paths are gentle, but the main spring and Wanzhu Garden can become crowded during holidays.

Start with the main spring and Guanlan Pavilion
The main Baotu Spring, Guanlan Pavilion, stone inscriptions, and the spring pool are the essential first-visit sights. Laique Bridge gives you a side view of the pool, while the Wuyou Spring corridor is useful for reflections of water and traditional rooflines; the spring flow changes with rainfall and season, so the water display may look different on the day.
Gardens, history, and spring pools
Wanzhu Garden preserves stone, wood, and brick carvings, while Haitang Courtyard rewards a slower look at its details. The Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall stands beside Shuyu Spring and suits visitors interested in Jinan’s literary and historical heritage. Zhuoying Pool has clear water and many fish, making it useful for photographing fish and garden reflections.
Ways to spend your time
With limited time, focus on the main spring, Guanlan Pavilion, the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall, and Zhuoying Pool. Garden lovers should add Wanzhu Garden, while photographers can use Guanlan Pavilion, Laique Bridge, the Wuyou Spring corridor, and Zhuoying Pool as different viewpoints. Evening entry suits visitors who want springs and old buildings under lights, but any night performance should be checked separately and is not essential to the daytime visit.
Build your day
40–60-minute quick route
Enter through the south gate and see the main Baotu Spring, Guanlan Pavilion, and Luoyuan Hall first. Continue to the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall and Zhuoying Pool, then leave through the east gate. This route keeps the main spring and two cultural stops together and works well if you are transferring onward or have limited time.
2–3-hour full route
From the south gate, visit Baixue Tower, Wuyou Spring, Wanzhu Garden, the main Baotu Spring area, and Baihua Garden, then continue to Zhuoying Pool, the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall, and Shuyu Spring before leaving through the east gate. Slow down in Wanzhu Garden and around Zhuoying Pool; if commercial photo setups occupy the main spring area, follow another garden path first and return to Guanlan Pavilion later.
1.5–2-hour evening route
For an evening view, enter through the south or east gate after 17:00 and follow Shuyu Spring and the Li Qingzhao Memorial Hall toward the main pool. Lights usually come on around 19:00, but the scenic area still stops entry at 19:00; the lights do not extend the entry window.
Get there
Metro and walking
Take Jinan Metro Line 2 to Quancheng Square Station, then walk about 5 minutes to the scenic area. If you want the south gate, set Baotu Spring South Gate as the navigation target; entering south and leaving east gives you a practical route through the main sights.
Driving and parking
Traffic around the scenic area can be slow. Nearby parking is roughly CNY 8–10 per hour, so public transport is often easier. Drivers can check parking at Henglong Plaza or Shimao Plaza and walk from there; mall discounts and fees follow the conditions on the day and are not scenic-area parking benefits.
Combining nearby stops
Five Dragon Pool Park is north of Baotu Spring and connects conveniently from the Baotu Spring north-gate area. Daming Lake, Black Tiger Spring, and Kuanhouli can also fit into a full-day plan, but each is a separate attraction with its own opening hours and visit time.
Know before you go
Crowds, photography, and night visits
Crowds gather around the main spring during holidays, while the 07:00 opening period on weekdays is usually better for photography. Commercial photo setups may occupy viewpoints; if that happens, see Wanzhu Garden or another spring first and return to Guanlan Pavilion later. “Baotu Night Painting” is a separate night performance with a reference price of CNY 99; decide based on the programme and your interests that day.
Water, food, and seasonal changes
There are many restaurants around the scenic area; check prices and charging units before ordering and choose clearly priced venues. Spring flow, lighting, and on-site management can change with rainfall and season, so keep walkways clear while waiting for a particular view or photo position.
