Plan at a glance

Spring cluster and access

Black Tiger Spring is a free spring cluster along the moat in the Ring City Park. The spring area is open all day and works well for a short stop, filling water, or a walk beside the moat. There is no unified ticket gate; Black Tiger Spring, Liberation Pavilion, and Kuanhouli connect on foot, while museums and commercial streets keep separate hours.

Who it suits

This is a good stop for seeing how local residents collect spring water, photographing the moat, or adding a short evening walk in the old city. Allow 20–40 minutes for the spring area; add time for a Ring City boat or Liberation Pavilion according to queues and venue hours.

Black Tiger Spring and the moat

The three carved tiger heads, spring pool, and moat are the main sights. Early morning is useful for watching residents collect water, while evening light works well for the spring bank and city lights. Drinking water should be collected only from the designated gold-coloured drinking taps; raw water in the spring pool is not for drinking.

Boat rides and bathing area

Ring City boat tickets must be secured through the mini-program on the day, and availability and routes follow the on-site arrangement. The bathing area may close for disinfection on Mondays, and weather and crowds also affect access. If you want springs, a boat, and night views in one visit, look at the boat times before setting your walking order.

Build your day

20–40-minute spring route

Enter from the Black Tiger Spring stop or the Ring City Park side, follow the pools to the three stone tiger heads and the moat, then collect water at the designated drinking point before walking toward Kuanhouli or Liberation Pavilion. Keep the tap area moving so other visitors can fill their containers.

1–2-hour evening walk

Start at Black Tiger Spring for the water and moat, walk to the outside of Liberation Pavilion, then continue to Kuanhouli for food or shopping. The pavilion museum is closed on Mondays and open 09:00–16:00 Tuesday–Sunday; evening lights show the building exterior, not an extension of museum access.

Get there

Arrival and local transport

Take a bus to Black Tiger Spring, or walk about 10 minutes from Quancheng Square Station on Jinan Metro Line 2. Drivers can park at places such as Shimao Plaza and walk from there; parking around the spring and old-city lanes is limited.

Black Tiger Spring, Liberation Pavilion, and Kuanhouli are best connected on foot. Avoid roadside unofficial sightseeing carts. Ring City boats use designated piers and same-day ticket channels; the spring area itself is not a fixed boat pier.

Know before you go

Practical considerations

Collect spring water only from the designated drinking taps and never drink untreated water from the spring pool. Rain, strong wind, and crowds can affect the water surface, boats, and bathing area; keep children away from the edge of the moat and its railings.

Black Tiger Spring itself is free, while nearby food and boat rides cost extra. Early morning is better for quiet spring-bank photos; for evening views, plan the return journey together with crowd levels and transport.
