Mountain, Huayang Palace, and entrances

Huashan Scenic Area, historically called Huabuzhu Mountain, is at 61 Hualian Road in Licheng District. The mountain and Huayang Palace are free, with no reservation required. The scenic area is open 24 hours, while Huayang Palace is open 09:00–17:00 Tuesday–Sunday with last entry at 16:30 and closed on Mondays.

Time needed and who it suits

The south-gate summit round trip takes about 1.5–2 hours; adding Huayang Palace, the lake, and bridges takes 3–4 hours. The mountain is only about 197 metres high, but some steps are steep. It suits short city outings, families, traditional-costume photography, and visitors looking for a lake-and-hill sunset.

Summit and lake views

The summit looks over the city, lake area, and distant hills, while evening works well for sunset and lights beside the lake. Chongzheng Bridge, Yinghua Square, and Yanyu Bridge are useful for water reflections, and the west gate area has convenient lakeside viewpoints for a short stop.

Huayang Palace and the surrounding landscape

Huayang Palace is a separate courtyard and architectural sight with different hours from the mountain. The lake, lawns, and bridges suit an easy walk, but there is no small shop at the summit and mosquitoes are common beside the water.

Build your day

1.5–2-hour summit route

Enter through the south gate and walk about 30 minutes up the main path to the summit. Enjoy the panorama and return by the same route. If energy is limited, complete the descent first and then decide whether to rest beside the lake.

3–4-hour full route

From the south gate, start at Chongzheng Bridge and Yinghua Square for reflections, climb the trail for a sunset view, then visit Huayang Palace after descending and finish at Yanyu Bridge and the lake. Huayang Palace clears at 17:00, so allow enough time to visit its interior after the mountain.

Get there

Arrival and local transport

Take Jinan Metro Line 2 to Lishan North Road Station, then transfer by bus or bicycle for about 10 minutes to the south gate. BRT4, BRT6, K531, and B218 stop at Huashan Scenic Area South Gate. Drivers can use the south car park, listed at CNY 4 per hour, or check the Zhonghai Fuhuali car park.

The south gate suits the mountain and Huayang Palace route; the west or West 2 gate is closer to the lake, while the north gate is quieter. Select the gate according to the route you want.

Practical considerations

The mountain is short but has steep steps, so wear slip-resistant sports shoes and carry water. Mosquitoes are common beside the lake, and barbecues are prohibited; if you picnic on the lawn, take all rubbish away.

The scenic area’s night access does not mean Huayang Palace is open at night, and the palace closes on Mondays. Cycling, boat rides, and nearby food are separate plans; Huashan Scenic Area itself is free.
