Location and entry
Jingzhou Museum is at 166 Jingzhong Road in Jingzhou District. Enter through the South Gate, where free luggage storage is available. It works well as the first stop on a cultural half-day before Jingzhou Ancient City or the city wall.
Tickets and opening hours
Admission is free, but visitors still need to pass identity checks. Chinese residents can currently enter by swiping their ID card at the gate, with no advance reservation. Normal hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30; the museum is closed on Mondays except during national public holidays.

Chu culture and ancient crafts
The Main Exhibition Building includes Mantian Xingdou (《漫天星斗》), Jijin Yaocai (《吉金耀彩》), Chuyu Xieying (《楚玉撷英》), and Shuyu Zhumu (《书于竹木》). The Yue Wang Zhougou Jian (越王州句剑), a sword belonging to King Zhougou of Yue, the jade face covering, and the Huzuo Fengniao Xuangu (虎座凤鸟悬鼓) are good priorities for the first part of a visit. The Treasure Gallery contains Wudafu Sui (五大夫遂) and Danqi Shenyun (《丹漆神韵》), while Kaiyuan Guan (开元观), a historic Taoist complex, has its own history and culture display. The museum suits visitors interested in Chu culture, archaeology, and ancient craftsmanship.
The Treasure Gallery and Kaiyuan Guan
The Western Han male body known as Wudafu Sui (五大夫遂) is the main reason to continue to the Treasure Gallery after the Main Exhibition Building. The historic Kaiyuan Guan building has a separate history and culture display and makes a useful final stop on a longer visit.
How to prioritize the exhibits
For Chu-period objects, start with the Yue Wang Zhougou Jian, the jade face covering, the Huzuo Fengniao Xuangu, and Chuyu Xieying. Visitors more interested in Han tombs and human remains can leave the Treasure Gallery until after the main building; it is behind the main building, so include that walk even on a short route.
Who it suits
If you want an introduction to Jingzhou’s Chu culture, Three Kingdoms history, and ancient crafts, the museum is a stronger first stop than the wall alone. Visitors who prefer a quieter gallery experience may find weekday mornings easier, while those who want only the best-known objects can follow the short route.

A 1–2 hour quick route
Enter through the South Gate and begin in the Main Exhibition Building with the Yue Wang Zhougou Jian, the jade face covering, and the Huzuo Fengniao Xuangu. Then walk behind the main building to the Treasure Gallery for Wudafu Sui. After these two priorities, return to the entrance.
A 3–4 hour highlights route
Begin in the Main Exhibition Building with Mantian Xingdou, Jijin Yaocai, Chuyu Xieying, Shuyu Zhumu, and Taoyuan Qizhen (《陶苑奇珍》). Continue to the Treasure Gallery for Wudafu Sui and Danqi Shenyun, then finish at Kaiyuan Guan’s history and culture display. After leaving, continue to the ancient city or city wall.
Guiding and leaving
If you want a staff-led explanation, ask at the customer service desk after entering; during busy periods, afternoon slots may fill quickly. After the visit, walk to the West Gate bus stop or take a car. Drivers should walk back to the museum from their parking area before continuing to the ancient-city district.

Bus and navigation
Jingzhou currently has no metro. Search for “Jingzhou Museum” in your map app, or take buses 19, 20, 33, or 101 to the “West Gate” stop and walk from there. International visitors should carry their original passport and confirm in advance how on-site entry verification works if they do not have a Chinese resident ID card.
Parking
Roads outside the museum can become congested during peak periods and public holidays. The practical options are the visitor-center car park about 200 metres west of the museum or a car park outside the city wall near the East Gate, followed by a walk to the South Gate. The road immediately outside the museum is better for short drop-offs than for waiting for a parking space.

Crowds and visit pace
Weekends, public holidays, and school groups can make the galleries busier. Weekday mornings are usually better for a quieter visit. The Main Exhibition Building has two floors, and the Treasure Gallery is behind it, so wear comfortable shoes if you plan to complete the full route.
Summer hours, food, and rest
Summer hours may shift to 08:30–17:30 in July and August, so check the day’s arrangement before setting out; the normal last-entry time remains 16:30. Restaurants around the museum vary in quality. You can take a short break nearby, then head toward Shashi for Wuyi Road rice noodles, Huangjiatang rice noodles, Aizi pastries, or a meal at “Jiujiu” for fish cake and eel dishes.
