The area and its entrances
Jingzhou Ancient City is at 118 Donghuan Road in Jingzhou District. The visit covers the gates, city wall, moat, and streets inside the old city. The East Gate, Yinbin Gate (寅宾门), has a visitor center; the North Gate, Gongji Gate, and the South Gate, Nanjimen, are also useful entry and exit points. First-time visitors can use the East Gate as their main starting point.
Tickets and timing
The city wall itself is free to walk. Binyang Tower requires a separate ticket of about CNY 35, while some gate towers, such as Chaozong Tower, may be free to enter. The old-city streets do not have one single closing time; tower access, boat rides, and evening lighting should be planned around the day’s operations.

Gates, wall, and moat
Start with the structure of the East, North, or South Gate, then choose one section of wall before returning to the moat for a wider view of the old city. Low-rise streets inside the wall and modern buildings outside it create a contrast that is different from visiting a single museum.
Binyang Tower and the old streets
Binyang Tower is the most visible tower in the East Gate area and an optional stop on an old-city walk. Its tower ticket is separate from walking on the wall. Zhang Juzheng Street, the older lanes near the gates, and the moat are better places to slow down, take photographs, or rest briefly.
Who it suits
The ancient city suits visitors who enjoy historic buildings, Three Kingdoms history, urban walks, and traditional-style photography. For a quick look at the landmarks, use the East Gate route; for street life and the waterfront atmosphere, stay into the afternoon and early evening.

A 1–2 hour East Gate route
Enter through Yinbin Gate at the East Gate. View Binyang Tower from outside or buy a ticket to go up, then walk a short section of the nearby wall before going down to the moat for photographs. Finish near the East Gate visitor center, continue to the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng, or leave the old city.
A 3–4 hour old-city route
Start at the East Gate and walk south along a chosen section of wall, taking in the streets inside and the modern city outside. Return to the East Gate area for Binyang Tower, then continue through the old-city streets to the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng. If you keep walking south, Guandi Temple inside the old city can be another stop; it is separate from Guan Yu Shrine on Xiejia Mountain.
A 2–3 hour evening route
At dusk, begin beside the East Gate moat for views of the wall and water. Depending on the day’s schedule, add Binyang Tower or a moat boat ride. When the evening visit ends, leave from the East Gate or a nearby bus or taxi point; boat rides, lighting, and opening hours should be checked as part of the same-day plan.

Buses and gate navigation
Buses 19, 20, 33, and 101 stop near the “West Gate,” “North Gate Square,” and “Three Kingdoms Park” areas. From there, walk to the relevant gate. For navigation, search for “Jingzhou Ancient City,” Yinbin Gate at the East Gate, or the specific gate you want to use.
Driving and walking connections
Drivers can consider the East Gate car park or the visitor-center car park, then enter on foot. Roads inside the old city may be congested on weekends and public holidays. The area is best explored on foot, by bicycle, or in sections, with the parking location matched to the route’s finishing point.
Know before you go
Wall length and walking effort
The wall is more than 11 kilometres around. For a normal half-day, choose the East Gate area or the section from the East Gate to the South Gate rather than attempting the full circuit. Public toilets on the wall are limited, so use facilities below before a long walk and wear shoes suited to steps and brick surfaces.
Crowds, tickets, and food
Weekends, public holidays, and school groups can make the gates and wall busier; weekday mornings are usually calmer. Walking on the wall is free. If you plan to visit several paid sites such as Binyang Tower and the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng, compare the CNY 100 Jianghan Tourist Pass with the individual tickets. Zhang Juzheng Street, Wuyi Road, and Dasai Lane are practical areas for fish-noodle soup, guokui pastries, and Jingzhou dishes.
