Guan Yu Shrine on Xiejia Mountain
Guan Yu Shrine stands on Xiejia Mountain near New South Gate in Jingzhou Ancient City. Use “Guan Yu Shrine” or “99 Inner Ring South Road, New South Gate” for navigation. Enter through the main gate and follow the uphill path to Chunqiu Ge (春秋阁), Sanyi Dian (三义殿), and the views over the old city. It works best as a separate uphill stop rather than part of a flat old-city walk.
Ticket and opening hours
Adult admission is about CNY 27, and current hours are about 08:00–17:00. The Jianghan Tourist Pass, at about CNY 100, may cover this attraction. Tickets are generally available through the day’s ticketing channel; during holidays or special events, follow the ticket notice for that date.

Chunqiu Ge and Sanyi Dian
Chunqiu Ge stands at the summit and is the shrine’s main building, with a statue of Guan Yu inside. The nearby Sanyi Dian contains statues of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei representing the Peach Garden Oath. Both are concentrated around the summit plaza and are the first priorities for a first visit.
The stairway and summit view
The climb from the foot of the hill passes the long stairway and reliefs such as the Peach Garden Oath scene. From the summit plaza, you can look over Jingzhou Ancient City. Clear weather is best for combining the old city with the sky in a photograph; a view back toward Chunqiu Ge works well from below.
Who it suits
Guan Yu Shrine suits visitors interested in Guan Yu, Three Kingdoms history, and city views. Its focus is shrine architecture, the uphill walk, and the summit outlook rather than dense museum displays. Visitors who prefer flat attractions should allow for the physical effort of the stairway.
Choosing your main stops
In clear weather, leave the summit plaza and old-city view for the latter part of the visit, after seeing the reliefs and buildings along the stairway. Visitors especially interested in Guan Yu can focus on Chunqiu Ge, Sanyi Dian, and Zhoucang Dian (周仓殿), with less time for photographs.
For a separate city-wall walking route, see Jingzhou Ancient City Wall.
Build your day
A 30–45 minute quick route
Enter through the main gate and climb to the summit. See Chunqiu Ge and Sanyi Dian first, then pause at the plaza for a panorama of the old city. Return by the same route, or use a side path if it is open, before continuing to other parts of the ancient city.
A 1–1.5 hour highlights route
Look for the Peach Garden Oath reliefs on the way up. At the summit, visit Chunqiu Ge, Sanyi Dian, and the Guan Yu statue, then take in the old-city view from the plaza. Descend by Sanyi Road (三义路) or Zhongyi Road (忠义路), passing smaller halls such as Zhoucang Dian.
Connecting the descent
After coming down, continue toward Jingzhou Ancient City Wall if you want another historic view, or go to Dasai Lane or Wenhuafang for a rest and a meal. Guandi Temple inside the South Gate area is a separate place, not an exit or an annex of Guan Yu Shrine.
Get there
Bus and walk
Take buses 1, 15, 19, 32, or 101 to the “Fifth Hospital” stop, then walk about 10–15 minutes to the main gate. Search for “Guan Yu Shrine” or “99 Inner Ring South Road, New South Gate,” then follow the entrance signs before beginning the climb.
Parking
Parking is generally available near the attraction, but include the final walk in your plan. After parking, find the main gate and follow the stairway upward; the road at the foot of the hill is for arrival, not the summit route.
Know before you go
Uphill walking and footwear
The long stairway, hillside paths, and descent are the main physical demands. Comfortable shoes matter more than adding too many ancient-city stops. The summit plaza is a good place to pause for photographs; in hot weather or after rain, shorten the outdoor stop and descend by the same route.
Passes and location boundaries
The Guan Yu Shrine ticket is CNY 27, and the Jianghan Tourist Pass is another option for a multi-attraction day. Current hours are about 08:00–17:00. Guandi Temple inside the South Gate is a different site; a Guan Yu Shrine visit centers on the buildings, ticket, and uphill route on Xiejia Mountain.
