An independent tower visit at the East Gate
Binyang Tower stands above Yinbin Gate (寅宾门) at Jingzhou’s East Gate, at the intersection of Zhang Juzheng Street and Inner Ring North Road. It is next to the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng and works well as a short East Gate stop focused on the tower, views over the old city, and the waterfront after you come down.
Ticket and opening window
The tower ticket is about CNY 35. If you are visiting several paid sites on the same day, compare it with the CNY 100 Jianghan Tourist Pass. Binyang Tower usually opens at 08:00; evening hours vary by date, and Friday-to-Sunday light shows commonly run at 19:00 and 19:30. Check the day’s last-entry and closing times before an evening visit.

The scale model and Three Kingdoms figures
Inside the tower, the Jingzhou Ancient City scale model gives you the overall layout before you look at the figures of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei. For a first visit to the old city, these displays explain the East Gate’s position better than an exterior photograph alone.
Corridors, Jinfeng Square, and the moat
Walk around the corridors to see both the old-city streets and the moat outside the wall. After descending, Jinfeng Square gives you a fuller composition of the tower, water, and reflections. The square is usually better than the upper level for a complete architectural photograph.
Who it suits
Binyang Tower suits visitors interested in old-city landmarks, Three Kingdoms history, elevated views, and night photography. If you only want a wall walk, use a free wall entrance; entering the tower for the scale model and corridors is a separate paid visit.
An East Gate combination
Binyang Tower and the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng are next to each other, so they fit naturally into one East Gate walk. The wall and moat offer different viewpoints from the tower. Finish the tower visit first, then decide whether to eat along Zhang Juzheng Street; the combination can usually stay within half a day.
For a dedicated free-entry wall route, see Jingzhou Ancient City Wall.
Build your day
A 30–45 minute quick tower route
Enter at the East Gate and go straight up. See the ancient-city scale model and the Three Kingdoms figures first, walk once around the corridors, and then come down after looking over the city. If time is short, take an exterior photograph at the gate opening or Jinfeng Square before walking to Zhang Juzheng Street.
A 1–1.5 hour sunset route
Go up in the later afternoon, finish the scale model and corridors, then wait for sunset and the change in the lights. After descending, walk to Jinfeng Square or the moat to photograph Binyang Tower’s reflection. Match the transition from daytime to evening access with that day’s opening hours.
A 1.5–2 hour evening route
Start at Jinfeng Square for a full view of the East Gate, then go up the tower as the lights come on. After descending, take a moat boat if it is running that evening. Boat rides, night entry, and the light show are not a fixed package; leave directly from the East Gate area when the visit ends.
Get there
Bus and walking
Buses 19, 20, 33, and 101 stop near the “East Gate” area. From there, walk to the tower entrance. Search for “Binyang Tower” or “Jingzhou Ancient City Yinbin Gate”; the Former Residence of Zhang Juzheng is nearby, but its entrance is separate.
Parking
Roads inside the old city can be congested on weekends and holidays. Consider parking outside the old city and walking to the East Gate. Nearby parking areas may be available, but spaces vary with the day’s crowds, so allow time for the final walk if you arrive in the evening.
Know before you go
Wall walking and tower tickets
CNY 35 is the Binyang Tower ticket, not a ticket for walking the wall. The wall can be accessed through free entrances; the exact entrances and hours should be checked on site that day.
Evening access and walking safety
Before going up at night, check whether the tower is open, its closing time, and the light-show schedule. Some wall sections between the East Gate and South Gate may have no lights. After the view, use lit roads back to the East Gate, Zhang Juzheng Street, or the bus and taxi points; Zhang Juzheng Street is the practical place for food.
