Address, opening hours and entry

China Woodcarving Museum is at 180 Shimao Avenue in Baiyun Subdistrict, Dongyang, Jinhua, Zhejiang. It is part of Phase II of Dongyang China Woodcarving City. Admission is free and reservations are usually not required. Reference hours are Tuesday to Sunday, 09:00–17:00, with last entry at 16:30. It is usually closed on Mondays, except for statutory holidays.

Entry usually requires an identity card or electronic identity registration. The museum and Lu Residence are separate venues, so confirm their addresses, opening hours and routes independently before combining them in one day.

How much time to allow

A quick visit takes about 1.5–2 hours. Allow 3–4 hours if you want to move through the galleries slowly. The museum suits visitors interested in traditional craft, art and local culture, families on an educational visit and travellers who want a quiet indoor stop in Dongyang.

Choose your visit

The Ten-Thousand-Worker Sedan Chair and woodcarving history

The Ten-Thousand-Worker Sedan Chair on the basement level is an important exhibit. Look at its overall structure, figure patterns and red-and-gold workmanship. The history gallery presents early woodcarving, the life gallery uses scene-based displays, and the master and world galleries show woodcarving practices from different periods and regions.

The giant screen in the entrance hall, history gallery, life gallery, master gallery and bamboo-art gallery can be selected according to your interests. Exhibition content and the display status of individual objects may change. Follow the on-site photography rules.

Who it suits

Visitors interested in traditional craft, architectural decoration and woodcarving details can spend half a day on a fuller visit. Families can start with the sedan chair and life gallery, then decide whether to continue through all galleries according to the children’s attention span.

The galleries are large and some areas are dim. Slow down to read the descriptions. Photography enthusiasts should follow display-case, flash and tripod restrictions, and should not approach exhibits or block passageways for a photograph.

Build your day

A 1.5–2 hour highlights route

Start with the screen in the entrance hall, go downstairs to see the Ten-Thousand-Worker Sedan Chair, then return upstairs for the history gallery and choose the life or world gallery for a longer stop. This route keeps the priorities clear and suits visitors adding the museum shortly before closing.

If time is limited, prioritise the sedan chair and history gallery rather than rushing through every room. Before leaving, confirm whether the next stop is Lu Residence, Woodcarving City or your accommodation, then arrange transport.

A complete 3–4 hour route

With more time, follow the direction of the central hall, history gallery, life gallery, master gallery, world gallery, bamboo-art gallery and Family Instructions Hall. Movement is mainly indoors, so stop to read the descriptions instead of rushing past craft details that interest you.

The museum may offer guided sessions at 10:00 and 14:00, but the time, meeting point and registration requirement follow the day’s arrangements. If you want a guided session, confirm it first and then adjust the gallery order.

Connecting with Lu Residence

The museum and Lu Residence work as a one-day architecture-and-craft theme, but their addresses, opening hours and entry procedures are independent. Check whether the museum is closed that day before deciding the order, and do not estimate the transfer only from the straight-line distance.

Get there

Light rail and city transport

Take the Jinyi-Dongyang regional rail to Woodcarving City Station. Exit at A2 and walk about 200 metres to the museum. Other shopping centres and exhibition venues inside Woodcarving City have different entrances, so follow the signs for China Woodcarving Museum after arriving.

When coming from Lu Residence or Hengdian, check the Dongyang drop-off point and return direction again. Include the end of public transport service, walking distance and the next venue’s opening time in the plan.

Driving and parking

Navigate to China Woodcarving Museum. Parking conditions may change with events and visitor volume. After arrival, follow the parking staff’s directions and enter through the public entrance for registration.

If you are also visiting Lu Residence, confirm the vehicle position and the next entrance before leaving the museum. The two venues are not one compound and cannot be visited from a shared parking point.

Know before you go

Closing day and guiding

The museum is usually closed on Mondays, and statutory-holiday arrangements may differ. Confirm whether it is open before planning the visit. Free guiding sessions, exhibitions and the opening status of individual galleries can change, so on-site information takes priority over old guides.

Free admission does not mean that every service is available at the same time. If you want a guide or an activity, ask about the meeting time and rules first, and do not let waiting for a service delay your departure before closing.

Light, walking and photography

The galleries are large. Wear comfortable flat shoes and leave time for reading and rest. Some display cases are dim; check photography, flash and equipment restrictions before taking pictures, and respect other visitors.

China Woodcarving Museum is next to China Woodcarving City, but the shopping centre, market and museum have different entrances and opening times. If you want to shop or eat after the museum, treat it as a separate part of the plan and confirm whether the shops are open that day.
