Plan at a glance

West Gate lower station and Guling upper station

The lower station of the Lushan Transport Cableway is at No. 186 Huiyuan Road. The ride to the upper station in Guling Town takes about 7–10 minutes. It provides the West Gate entry option and the main mountain transfer; after reaching the upper station, continue on foot or change to mountain transport according to your plan.

Fares, booking and operating hours

The cableway costs CNY 75 for an uphill single ride, CNY 65 for a downhill single ride and CNY 120 for a return ticket. No separate reservation is required; buy through the “一机游庐山” mini program or on site. In July and August, it operates from 07:30 to 21:00; in other seasons, from 07:30 to 18:30. Queues and parking in peak periods can affect the time you actually board.

The CNY 160 Lushan pass and the CNY 70 mountain sightseeing-bus pass are separate charges. The cableway ticket includes neither. If you continue into the main scenic area, budget separately for the scenic-area pass and mountain transport.

Choose your visit

For visitors prone to motion sickness or short on time

The mountain road has more than 300 sharp bends and can cause motion sickness. Taking the cableway from the West Gate puts the main uphill transfer into a ride of about 7–10 minutes. Families travelling with older adults or children, or visitors who want to save their energy for walking around Guling and the western route, may want to compare this option first.

Views from the cabin and along the route

The panoramic glass cabins pass over forests and terraces, with distant views in the direction of Donglin Temple. A sea of clouds may appear after rain clears or after 8:00 in the morning, but clouds, visibility and the day’s operating conditions all affect the view. Treat a sea of clouds as a weather possibility, not a promise.

Connecting with Guling Town

The upper station connects to Guling Town, where accommodation, food and mountain transport are concentrated. Visitors taking only the cableway can make a short stop in town; those continuing into the main Lushan scenic area can then travel from town to western-route stops such as Flower Path and Ruqin Lake.

Build your day

A quick entry sequence

At the lower station, buy or validate your cableway ticket and join the queue for the cabin. The ride to Guling upper station takes about 7–10 minutes. After getting off, walk into Guling Town or change to a mountain sightseeing bus for your destination.

Cableway followed by the western route

Take the cableway to Guling in the morning, replenish water and eat in town, then take the sightseeing bus to Flower Path Station. Continue through Ruqin Lake, Flower Path Park, Jinxiu Valley, Tianqiao and Immortal Cave on the half-day western route. Return to Guling for the night, or go back to the lower station within the cableway’s operating hours.

Return arrangements

If you plan to use the West Gate cableway in both directions, a return ticket may make sense. If you will leave through the East Gate or stay on the mountain, decide first whether you still need to return to the lower station. A return ticket does not solve a late descent after service ends; evening rides must follow the operating arrangements for that day.

Get there

From Lushan Station to the West Gate cableway

After leaving Lushan Station, first take the free shuttle to the transfer centre, then change to a bus costing about CNY 10 to the Lushan Transport Cableway station. You can also take a taxi, which takes about 20 minutes. A trip from Jiujiang Station to the lower station requires a separate city transfer; the North Gate sightseeing bus does not pass the cableway station.

Parking and the alternative shuttle

Navigate to “Lushan Transport Cableway Lower Station Parking Area”. The lower station has underground parking, which is usually convenient on ordinary days. Spaces can fill quickly in peak periods; if the lot is full, use the more distant parking area by the national road and take the free shuttle back to the cableway station.

Know before you go

Peak crowds and changing operations

The cableway runs until 21:00 in July and August and until 18:30 in other seasons. Queues and parking can change the time you actually enter, and peak periods may bring both a full underground lot and crowded shuttle transfers. Count the time for entry separately from your first activity after reaching Guling.

Fares and mountain transport

Cableway single or return tickets, the CNY 160 Lushan pass and the CNY 70 mountain sightseeing-bus pass are bought separately. A cableway ticket does not mean you have entered the main scenic area. Food options around the lower station are limited, so arrange a meal after reaching Guling.

Motion sickness, weather and views

The cableway mainly reduces the motion-sickness burden caused by the mountain’s sharp bends, but the view from the cabin still depends on clouds and visibility. After rain clears, a sea of clouds may appear, or you may see only forests and terraces. The boarding order on the day determines where you stand or sit; no particular row or side is guaranteed.
