Plan at a glance

An independent scenic area in Bailu Town

Xiufeng Scenic Area is in Bailu Town, Lushan City. Navigate to “Xiufeng Scenic Area” for the clear entrance. Xiufeng has its own entrance and also sells a separate ticket product; visitors with a valid CNY 160 Lushan core scenic-area pass can enter Xiufeng under the applicable rules during the pass’s seven-day validity, without buying Xiufeng’s main entrance ticket again.

Tickets, cableway and opening hours

Without the Lushan pass, Xiufeng’s separate ticket costs about CNY 62. The cableway costs CNY 40 one way or CNY 60 return, and the scenic area is open from 08:00 to 17:30. The cableway is an additional purchase. Water volume and cableway operation depend on weather and visitor numbers, so keep a walking alternative available even after deciding on the ticket combination.

Choose your visit

Two waterfalls and Jiutianchi

Xiufeng Waterfall is formed by the Huangyan and Mawei falls. Jiutianchi is a good place to see the full waterfall from close to the valley floor. Water is usually fuller during the June–August rainy season or after a run of wet weather; morning or a clear spell after rain may bring mist, but the flow still changes with conditions on the day.

Gorge, inscriptions and Xiufeng Temple

Qingyu Gorge, Longtan, Shuyu Pavilion, the group of cliff inscriptions and Xiufeng Temple combine natural paths with historic sites. They suit visitors interested in classical poetry, scenery and temple architecture. The summit viewpoint looks over the falls and the Poyang Lake plain. Outside the scenic area, Xiufeng Supermarket and Rural Road 560 offer free distant views, but they are not part of the ticketed route.

Choosing how much to walk

Families or visitors who want to reduce uphill steps can use the cableway and then walk to the waterfall viewing platform. Visitors who enjoy a continuous hike can take the full 3–4-hour route. Both options need shoes with good grip; older adults and children should be watched closely around the gorge, steps and wet sections.

Build your day

A 2–3-hour cableway route

Walk from the entrance to the cableway station, ride up and then walk about 10–15 minutes to the waterfall viewing platform. After seeing the falls, return to the cableway station and descend by the same route, or walk down if the trail conditions allow. The route takes about 2–3 hours.

A 3–4-hour full hiking route

Follow the uphill trail from the entrance through Qingyu Gorge, Longtan, Shuyu Pavilion, the cliff inscriptions and Xiufeng Temple, then continue to the summit viewpoint for views of the falls and the distance. Return down the trail; the full route takes about 3–4 hours, with the descent included in the timing.

The outside viewpoint

If you only want a distant view of the waterfall, navigate to “Xiufeng Supermarket” or Rural Road 560 for an outside viewpoint; no scenic-area ticket is needed for that stop. The outside viewpoints show the falls from a distance. To see Jiutianchi, the waterfall viewing platform and Xiufeng Temple, enter through the formal gate. A valid CNY 160 Lushan core scenic-area pass can be validated there under the applicable rules; visitors without the pass buy Xiufeng’s separate ticket.

Get there

By bus from Jiujiang

From Jiujiang Coach Terminal, take a bus towards Lushan’s urban area; some older routes or local speech may still use the name “Xingzi”. The ride takes about one hour and costs about CNY 13. After arriving, change to a local bus or take a taxi to Xiufeng Scenic Area. Use “Xiufeng Scenic Area” as the navigation target, reach the entrance first and then choose the cableway or hiking route.

Driving and parking

Drive directly to Xiufeng Scenic Area using navigation; there is a car park, but spaces can be tight in peak periods. Avoid the times when tour groups arrive in large numbers. The car park only covers vehicle parking; visitors without a valid Lushan pass need Xiufeng’s separate entrance ticket, while the cableway is always bought separately.

Know before you go

Waterfall flow and cableway conditions

Water volume changes with the season and rainfall; outside the wet season, the falls may be a thinner stream. The cableway can also pause during peak periods because of crowd levels. If you need the easier uphill option, keep the full hike as a backup and decide whether to ride the cableway after checking the day’s operating status.

Shoes, spring water and mountain paths

The full hike takes about 3–4 hours and has many steps. Wear comfortable shoes with good grip, especially after rain. Water from Congming Quan (聪明泉) may have a relatively high mineral content, so visitors with sensitive stomachs should not drink it directly; stay on open paths and in safe areas around the gorge.

Food and nearby combinations

Farm restaurants at the foot of the mountain serve dishes such as chicken stewed with Shi'er (石耳), an edible rock lichen. Arrange a full meal in Bailu Town or back in Jiujiang. White Deer Grotto Academy and Donglin Grand Buddha can be combined in one separate driving segment, but their entrances and opening rules are independent. The academy has its own ticketing, while Donglin Grand Buddha is free to enter. Do not connect them by walking along the Xiufeng trail.
