Wulao Peak Station and tickets
Take the mountain sightseeing bus from Guling Town to “Wulao Peak Station”; the hiking entrance is visible when you get off. Wulao Peak is covered by the CNY 160 Lushan pass, so there is no separate attraction ticket. The mountain sightseeing-bus pass costs CNY 70, and entry also requires real-name booking through the “一机游庐山” mini program.
How much time to allow
The short loop around the first peak takes about 1.5–2 hours; the traverse from the first to the fifth peak takes about 3–4 hours. Opening hours are approximately 07:00–17:00. In peak periods, afternoon sightseeing buses may finish earlier because of crowds, so a longer route must include both arrival and departure timing.

Five peaks, five different views
The first peak is gentler, while the second is known for the unusual Eagle-Beak Rock. The third feels more open, the fourth has more changes in terrain and trail, and the fifth offers the widest view. In good weather, the fifth peak looks over Poyang Lake, Jiujiang, the plains below and the surrounding lakes.
For hiking and photography
Visitors who enjoy continuous mountain trails, photography or seeing Lushan from several angles are suited to the full traverse. If you want one mountain view, have limited time or need to control your walking load, choose the short first-peak loop. Sunrise and a sea of clouds at the fifth peak depend on the weather; early morning or a bright spell after rain may bring better visibility.

Build your day
Short first-peak loop
Get off at Wulao Peak Station and follow the trail to the first-peak viewing platform. If time allows, walk partway towards Eagle-Beak Rock at the second peak. After seeing the first peak and Eagle-Beak Rock, return to Wulao Peak Station by the same route and leave by sightseeing bus; the loop takes about 1.5–2 hours.
Traverse from the first to the fifth peak
Start at the first peak, pass the second, third and fourth peaks, and finish at the fifth before returning to the first-peak entrance for the bus. The full route takes about 3–4 hours. The section from the fourth to the fifth peak is longer and uses more energy; keep the early photo stops measured so you have strength for the final section.
Combining it with other eastern stops
After the hike, take a sightseeing bus to Hanpokou or return directly to Guling Town to rest. Wulao Peak is not suited to being joined at the last minute with Three Cascades’ long stair route as one continuous descent. The roughly 1,500 steep steps from the fifth-peak direction down to Three Cascades are not a standard arrangement; plan the two attractions separately, including separate time and finishing points.

By sightseeing bus from Guling Town
In Guling Town, set the navigation target to “Wulao Peak Station” and take the mountain sightseeing bus. Walk directly into the trail entrance after getting off. The short route returns to the same station; after the full traverse, return to the first-peak entrance for the bus rather than looking for a separate descent transfer at the fifth peak.
Supplies along the route
Small shops at the first and fourth peaks sell water and simple food. Arrange a fuller meal and rest in Guling Town. Drivers need to plan parking and the uphill transfer separately; Wulao Peak Station is a hiking entrance, not a car park.
Know before you go
Sightseeing buses, signal and weather
In peak periods, afternoon buses to Wulao Peak may finish early, so aim to reach the station before noon for the full traverse. Signal is weak at the summit and the weather changes quickly. A sea of clouds and sunrise appear only under suitable conditions; the trail is slippery in rain, and grip matters more than rushing for photos.
Fitness and safety limits
The section from the fourth to the fifth peak is the most demanding part of the traverse. The fifth-peak direction also has about 1,500 steep downhill steps to Three Cascades. Schedule Wulao Peak and Three Cascades separately to avoid turning one summit hike into an extra-long descent, and stay on open paths around rocks and viewing edges.
Rest after the hike
After the short first-peak loop, you can continue to another eastern viewpoint or return directly to Guling Town. After the full traverse, prioritise returning to town for rest and food. The small shops cover only basic supplies; full dining and accommodation are in Guling Town.
