Plan at a glance

Choosing a lake entrance

Xingkai Lake is in Mishan and is spread across several separate entrances. Choose Xinkailiu for the beach and elevated views. Choose Dangbi Town for a park walk, the Great Northern Wilderness Memorial Hall, and a meal featuring local lake fish. These entrances require separate navigation and vehicle planning.

The Xingkai Lake Wetland Park lies within the Xinkailiu scenic-area range, but it has its own visitor entrance and separate ticketing. It is not a second, completely separate lake district; use the wetland park's own gate as the navigation destination.

How much time to allow

Seeing the Xinkailiu viewing platform and the lake stone takes about 30 minutes. A visit that adds the beach and the Xinkailiu Archaeological Site takes about two to three hours.

Xinkailiu and Dangbi Town can be combined. If you visit both, allow more than half a day and adjust the order around road conditions, congestion, opening hours, and the return journey.

Choose your visit

Xinkailiu beach and viewing platform

Xinkailiu's beach and viewing platform are the main lakefront stops. The higher levels look toward both Great Xingkai Lake and Small Xingkai Lake; when the platform is open, the east side of the fourth floor gives a broad lake view. The “Xingkai Lake” stone on the beach is another easy stop.

The beach is for walking and looking across the water. Wind, waves, water level, and the accessible shoreline can change. Swimming and water activities are allowed only in areas explicitly opened and managed that day.

Dangbi Town and the wetland park

Dangbi Town is a park-style visit with a lotus pond, windmill promenade, and Great Northern Wilderness Memorial Hall. It also works for a meal featuring local lake fish. The memorial hall belongs to the Dangbi Town visit and does not share the Xinkailiu entrance.

For a boardwalk walk and a short wetland observation, choose the separate Xingkai Lake Wetland Park. Its entrance, ticket, and opening arrangements are handled independently.

Build your day

About 30 minutes: a Xinkailiu stop

Enter Xinkailiu, go first to the viewing platform for views toward the two lakes, then cross to the beach and the “Xingkai Lake” stone before leaving through the open exit. If the platform has stopped admitting visitors, keep the visit to the beach within the day's open area.

The platform has a lift to the upper levels, including the east side of the fourth floor. Walk between the platform and stone according to the open route signs.

About two to three hours: the Xinkailiu circuit

Spend about an hour on the beach, then allow about 40 minutes for the viewing platform and continue to the Xinkailiu Archaeological Site if it is open. Fast boats and personal watercraft are optional paid activities and should be chosen only after confirming that they are operating and checking the price.

In summer and on holidays, the entrance road can be congested. Park early and follow the on-site route between the beach and platform. Tents, sunshades, and picnic arrangements may cost extra; check the day's rules.

More than half a day to a full day: the lake-area combination

If you are visiting both Xinkailiu and Dangbi Town, reserve more than half a day. Start at the Xinkailiu beach and viewing platform in the morning, drive to Dangbi Town for lunch, then use the afternoon for the park, lotus pond, windmill promenade, and Great Northern Wilderness Memorial Hall.

The two areas have separate entrances and ticketing arrangements. If driving or congestion takes longer than expected, prioritize the lakefront view or the Dangbi memorial hall and keep time for the return journey.

Get there

Driving and parking

The lake-area sites are spread out, so a private car is the easiest way to move between Xinkailiu and Dangbi Town. Navigate to each named entrance rather than using a general lake label.

Xinkailiu parking is around RMB 5 per visit, and spaces can be tight in peak periods. Arriving before 8:00 in summer or on a holiday helps, but the price and available spaces follow the entrance's same-day arrangement.

Public transport and the return trip

Rural buses are limited and infrequent. Non-drivers should arrange the outbound and return legs before choosing an itinerary and should not rely on changing vehicles between Xinkailiu, Dangbi Town, and the wetland park.

Check the services, travel times, and last departures from Mishan for your date, and arrange the return at the same time.

Know before you go

Tickets and opening hours by entrance

Xinkailiu's beach is free and the area does not require a reservation. The viewing platform costs RMB 10 per person, with a RMB 5 student ticket; older visitors aged 65 and above, visitors with disabilities, and accompanying carers have free-entry arrangements. The platform is generally open from 7:30 to 17:00, with last entry at 16:00. Check the entrance notice for document checks and which areas are operating that day.

Dangbi Town costs RMB 39 per person, and the ticket is valid for two days. Its usual hours are 8:00 to 17:00. That ticket applies only to the Dangbi entrance; the wetland park has separate tickets, opening hours, and parking rules.

Lakefront safety and on-site spending

Wind is strong around the lake and temperatures can drop between day and night, so carry a light layer even in summer. Water levels can affect the beach, activity areas, and roads. Do not enter the water, drive onto the beach, or walk onto ice without explicit permission; stay on open wetland paths.

Tents, sunshades, and water activities at Xinkailiu may cost extra, so check the day's prices and permitted areas. Before ordering Xingkai Lake dabaiyu (大白鱼), ask whether the restaurant charges by net or gross weight. Restaurant hours, public toilets, and rest facilities depend on the day's opening arrangement.
