Plan at a glance
Location and tickets
Xingkai Lake Wetland Park is beside Xingkai Lake Museum in Mishan. The park's main gate is next to the museum parking area, but the park and museum have separate entrances and tickets. The park centers on a boardwalk over Small Xingkai Lake.
Admission is RMB 30 per person and the park is generally open throughout the day. Temporary closures, boardwalk repairs, water levels, and weather can restrict access, so follow the gate notice and on-site signs.
How much time to allow
The boardwalk has a total built length of about 3,000 metres, but the section open to visitors can vary with water levels, maintenance, and on-site management, so the day's actual walking distance may be shorter. Your time also depends on your walking pace.
If time is limited, walk to the marked turning point and return. If you plan a longer walk, check the open section and the permitted return direction after entering. Add separate time if you also want to visit Xingkai Lake Museum.

Choose your visit
Boardwalk and wetland observation
The boardwalk extends over Small Xingkai Lake, with views of reeds, waterbirds, and aquatic plants. The open section can change with water levels, maintenance, and on-site management. Compared with Xinkailiu's beach and viewing platform, the park is better suited to a walking-based wetland visit.
From the middle section, you may be able to see the Xinkailiu viewing platform. Bird activity changes with the season. Stay on the boardwalk and keep away from birds, nests, and the wetland edge when taking photographs.
Pavilion and the nearby museum
Pavilions along the boardwalk and at its far end provide short rest stops. The wetland visit is mainly a boardwalk walk; beaches and boat activities belong to other lake-area routes.
Xingkai Lake Museum is next to the park and can be visited on the same day. It has separate tickets and opening arrangements.
Build your day
A middle-section short route
Enter through the wetland park gate and follow the open boardwalk to the marked middle section or turning point. Look across the water and toward the Xinkailiu platform, take photographs, and return by the indicated route. The distance and time depend on the open section, pace, and stops.
Follow the signs for the permitted direction. Use the boardwalk for both the outward and return legs and do not look for another exit along the wetland edge or a closed section. Stop to take photographs without blocking the walkway.
The longer walk, subject to the open section
Follow the boardwalk that is open that day and watch for reeds, waterbirds, and aquatic plants. If the route reaches the pavilion or another permitted endpoint, follow the signs to return or leave in the designated direction. Walking distance and total time change with the open section, weather, and pace.
At the endpoint, follow the signs for the required return direction. Do not detour through the wetland edge or a closed section. Check the day's boardwalk access and weather before starting.
Get there
Driving and parking
Driving from central Jixi takes about two to three hours. Navigate to “Xingkai Lake Wetland Park” or the nearby Xingkai Lake Museum, then enter through the wetland park's main gate. The parking area is next to the museum. Parking is around RMB 5 per visit, subject to the day's posted rate, and available spaces can change.
The lake-area sites are far apart, so a private car can connect the wetland park with Xinkailiu and Dangbi Town. If you also visit the museum, check its entry and midday pause before choosing the order; the wetland park's ticket and parking remain separate.
Public transport and the return trip
Rural buses are infrequent. Non-drivers should arrange transport from Mishan and the return before entering the park, rather than relying on a late bus or an improvised lake-area transfer.
Xinkailiu requires a separate drive. There is no walking connection between the lake-area sites, so combine them only when opening hours and the return vehicle allow it.
Know before you go
Tickets and the neighboring museum
The wetland park is generally open throughout the day, but temporary closures and boardwalk controls follow the entrance notice. Confirm reservations, child concessions, and the day's ticket rules at the gate.
Xingkai Lake Museum is next door but is not part of the wetland park. Tickets and opening hours are separate, and the museum may pause admission from 11:30 to 13:00. You can use that period for the boardwalk, but do not assume the park closes with the museum.
Wind, walking, and the wetland boundary
Wind can be strong and temperatures can change quickly around the lake. Bring a light layer and shoes with good grip. Visitors with limited mobility can turn back from the middle section.
Do not leave the boardwalk, approach nests, chase birds, feed wildlife, play recorded bird calls, or fly a drone. Observe and photograph from the open walkway. If a section is closed or water-management signs require a turnback, follow the on-site instruction.
