Location, admission and opening hours
Lianyungang Museum (连云港市博物馆) is at No. 68 Chaoyang East Road in Haizhou District, opposite the city government. The main entrance is on Chaoyang East Road. Admission is free and the museum usually does not require advance booking; bring your ID. On public holidays or during special exhibitions, entry arrangements may change. It is open Tuesday–Sunday from 09:00 to 17:30, with last entry at 17:00. It is closed on Mondays except during statutory public holidays.
How much time to allow
Allow 1–1.5 hours for a focused visit to “The Mystery of the Ages: Ling Huiping” and the Han slips exhibition. A full visit takes 2–3 hours and can include the history galleries, the Han wet corpse, Yinwan Han slips, the Journey to the West display, Buddhist sculpture exhibition and the outdoor Stele Forest Square. The museum works well before or after Huaguo Mountain or Haizhou Ancient Town, especially in hot or rainy weather.

“The Mystery of the Ages: Ling Huiping”
This gallery displays Ling Huiping, a Han-dynasty wet corpse and one of the museum's most distinctive archaeological exhibits. Photography is prohibited in the gallery. Visitors interested in archaeology should make it the first stop on a short visit.
Yinwan Han slips and Han-dynasty objects
The second-floor “Ink on History: Han Slips from the Yinwan Tombs in Donghai” exhibition introduces the Yinwan Han slips and the administrative records associated with them. The Hetian yellow-jade pig, the human-faced animal-bodied tomb guardian and “The Rhapsody of the Divine Crow” are useful objects to look for on the same floor.
Building and Stele Forest Square
The museum's shell-shaped exterior and large skylight in the atrium are worth seeing as architectural details. The outdoor Stele Forest Square displays Han pictorial stones and inscriptions. The atrium and outdoor square are suitable for photographs, while each gallery's own photography rules take priority.
Build your day
A 1–1.5 hour quick route
Enter through the main entrance and go directly to the “The Mystery of the Ages: Ling Huiping” gallery on the first floor. Then go to the second floor for the “Ink on History” Han slips exhibition and the tomb guardian. If time is short, complete these two areas before adding anything else.
A 2–3 hour full route
“Civilisation of Lianyungang” historical collection → “The Mystery of the Ages: Ling Huiping” → second-floor “Ink on History” Han slips → Journey to the West Culture display → third-floor “Quiet Observation” Buddhist sculpture exhibition → outdoor Stele Forest Square. Galleries may close temporarily for maintenance or a change of exhibition, so follow the open route on the day of your visit.
Indoor galleries and the outdoor stele square
On a hot or rainy day, keep the indoor galleries in the middle of the visit and use Stele Forest Square as the final walk. Do not rush through the Han slips and inscriptions. For a family-focused visit, keep Ling Huiping, the tomb guardian and the outdoor stele square, then shorten the remaining galleries.
Get there
Bus, cycling and driving
Take bus B12, 19 or 23 and get off at the City Government East Gate stop. Shared electric bikes are convenient for short trips in central Lianyungang. The museum provides free parking for drivers.
Entrance and visit order
The entrance is on Chaoyang East Road. After entering, confirm which floors and galleries are open, then work from the first floor upward. Because last entry is at 17:00, afternoon visitors should see the priority galleries first rather than leaving them until the final half hour.
Know before you go
Closing days and temporary changes
The museum is closed on Mondays and stops admitting visitors at 17:00 from Tuesday to Sunday. Galleries may close temporarily for maintenance or a new installation. If the Journey to the West Culture display is unavailable, continue with the historical collection, Han slips and outdoor stele route.
Photography and shopping
Photography is prohibited in the Ling Huiping gallery, and other rooms may have their own restrictions. A crystal shop on the basement level is a commercial concession; buying from it is optional and separate from the museum visit.
Nearby combinations and food
Yanhe Lane is about 3 kilometres away and works for food and an evening walk. Huaguo Mountain is about 12 kilometres away and can be visited on the same day, but the mountain route takes much longer, so keep the museum in a fixed morning or afternoon slot. Basu Xiaoju and Jigong Yupo are listed nearby food options, and museum parking is free.
