Location, entrances and ticket

Yuntai Mountain by the Sea (海上云台山) Visitor Centre is at No. 1 Taoyuan Road in Lianyun District. This is the main south entrance. A separate hiking approach is near Lianyungang Middle School on the north side. An adult ticket costs CNY 80 from April 20 to October 20 and CNY 60 from October 21 to April 19. The shuttle from the visitor centre to the summit costs CNY 20 one way or CNY 40 return. A ticket-plus-return-shuttle package is usually about CNY 95–100. The listed opening hours are 08:00–17:30.

How much time to allow

Allow 1.5–2 hours for the summit viewpoints and suspension bridge. A first visit is better with 3–4 hours, including the summit walk, viewpoint stops and the return transfer. The mountain road has many bends, so visitors prone to motion sickness should prepare before boarding the shuttle.

The Cloud Top viewpoints

The Sea-and-Sky Panorama Viewpoint (海天一览观景台) is the most important stop at the summit. It brings the mountain, sea, port and city into one view. Lingkong Treading Waves Bridge (凌空踏浪吊桥), Guandao Platform, Guangang Platform and Guancheng Platform can be visited from higher to lower along the summit route.

Photography and outdoor activities

The Sea-and-Sky Panorama Viewpoint is the main wide-angle position. Use the lines of the suspension bridge for portraits and distant views. Yuntai Eagle Rock, the themed signboards and the “Bird's Nest” seats at Yunding Weidao give you different compositions. Via ferrata climbing and the jungle net are extra-cost activities.

Who this suits

The mountain suits visitors who want a port, island and city panorama, as well as photography enthusiasts. The shuttle does not remove all walking: the summit still has boardwalks and stone steps. If someone in your group has limited energy, focus on the main summit viewpoints.

Build your day

A 1.5–2 hour quick route

Take the shuttle from the visitor centre to the Cloud Top area. Visit the Sea-and-Sky Panorama Viewpoint, Lingkong Treading Waves Bridge, Guandao Platform, Guangang Platform and Guancheng Platform, then return to the summit boarding point for the descent. This concentrates the visit at the highest viewpoint area.

A 3–4 hour first-visit route

Ride to the Cloud Top area, walk through the viewpoints and bridge from high to low, return to the Cloud Top boarding point and take the shuttle down. You can get off at Faqi Cultural Park or Wudao Nunnery on the way down, then continue by shuttle to the visitor centre. Decide based on the day's vehicle intervals and remaining time.

The north-side hiking approach

The northern hiking path starts near Lianyungang Middle School, with a Twelve Zodiac sculpture near the entrance. Recent visitor information indicates that this route may have checkpoints, charges or access restrictions. First-time visitors should use the official visitor-centre entrance rather than treating the north path as a guaranteed free entrance.

Get there

Bus and driving

Bus 35 goes to the visitor centre. Drivers can navigate to Yuntai Mountain by the Sea Visitor Centre; parking is listed at about CNY 15 per visit. The shuttle ride to the Cloud Top area takes about 20–25 minutes on the winding mountain road.

Planning the descent

The listed last return shuttle is 17:30. You still have steps and boardwalks after getting off at the summit, so work back from the last shuttle when deciding how long to stay. If you get off at Faqi Cultural Park or Wudao Nunnery, confirm the next vehicle before extending the stop.

Know before you go

Weather and visibility

The view depends heavily on visibility. Sunny conditions usually give clearer views of the port, Liandao and the coastal towns; fog or overcast weather can reduce the distant view considerably. When visibility is poor, shorten the summit stop rather than forcing every viewpoint into the route.

Walking, motion sickness and food

The shuttle handles the mountain road, but you still walk on steps and boardwalks at the summit. The road is winding, so prepare motion-sickness medication if needed. Fast food such as Dicos is available at the top at a higher price than in the city; bring a small amount of water and snacks.

Nearby combinations

After descending, you can continue to Lianyungang Old Street or Zaihaiyifang Park. If you add another coastal attraction, secure the return from Yuntai Mountain by the Sea first; several mountain-and-sea stops should not all be pushed into the same late-afternoon period.
