Plan at a glance
Location, ticket and opening hours
Kongwang Mountain Scenic Area (孔望山风景区) is on Yannan South Road in Haizhou District. The East Gate is the usual entrance; the South Gate can work better for a family route. Online tickets are about CNY 36–40. Students and visitors aged 60–69 can receive half-price admission, while children aged 6 or under, children 1.4 metres or shorter, visitors aged 70 or above and other eligible visitors can enter free under the scenic area's policy. Daytime hours are 07:30–18:00. A seasonal night programme may run from 18:00 to 22:00, with last entry at 21:00.
How much time to allow
Allow about 30 minutes for the summit and city view. A full visit covering the Eastern Han cliff carvings, Han stone elephant, Longdong Temple and the Confucius Looking to the Sea statue takes about 1–1.5 hours. Summer has limited shade on parts of the hill, so include water and sun protection in the plan.

Eastern Han cliff carvings and the stone elephant
The main reason to visit Kongwang Mountain is the Eastern Han cliff-carved Buddhist imagery, together with a Han-dynasty round-carved stone elephant. This is a history-and-culture stop rather than a landscape-heavy mountain park, so it suits visitors interested in early Buddhist art and the history of Haizhou.
Longdong Temple and the summit statue
Longdong Temple, Chengcha Pavilion and the Confucius Looking to the Sea statue sit along the climbing route. The summit looks over the city. The cliff carvings, the statue beside the summit and the illuminated night-tour areas are the clearest photography stops; arriving before sunset gives you both better light and time to descend.
Who this suits
Kongwang Mountain works for history-focused visitors, families wanting a short climb and travellers who prefer a compact scenic stop. Families can ask about activities near the South Gate, while visitors focused on the carvings can enter at the East Gate and go directly to the cultural sites.
Build your day
A 30-minute quick route
Enter through the East Gate, pass Leshui Square and Longdong Square, continue to Chengcha Pavilion and walk to the Confucius Looking to the Sea statue. Return by the same route. The loop is about 1.5 kilometres and suits visitors who mainly want the summit view.
A 1–1.5 hour heritage route
East Gate → Leshui Square → Longdong Square → Han stone elephant → Eastern Han cliff carvings → Chengcha Pavilion → Confucius Looking to the Sea statue → Cup-and-Plate Rock Inscriptions → Longdong Temple. The route is about 2 kilometres and combines the main cultural sites with the summit viewpoint.
A seasonal night route
When the night programme is running, descend from the Confucius statue through the Cup-and-Plate Rock Inscriptions and the rear of Longdong Temple before returning to the East Gate via Leshui Square. The South Lawn may host family activities or a market. The night route and event area follow the day's arrangement.
Get there
Bus, driving and entrances
Take bus 5 and get off at the Kongwang Mountain stop. Lianyungang does not currently have a metro system, so buses, taxis and ride-hailing are the practical city transport options. Drivers can navigate to Kongwang Mountain Scenic Area; the car park is listed at about CNY 10 per visit. The East Gate suits the standard heritage route, while the South Gate can be used for a family-focused plan.
Guides and orientation
Some wayfinding signs may be hard to follow. Save a map of the scenic area before you go. Public talks are usually arranged at 10:00 and 14:00; if you want more context for the carvings and stone elephant, plan to be near the relevant area around those times.
Know before you go
Physical effort and weather
The hill is not high, but some summer sections have little shade. Bring water, sun protection and non-slip sports shoes. If you stay for sunset or the night programme, work back from the 22:00 closing time when planning the descent.
Night-tour expectations
The night tour is seasonal rather than a year-round service. Opening months, lighting areas and market activities may change. A daytime route cannot simply be extended into the evening without allowing for the night admission and closing time.
Nearby combinations
Kongwang Mountain can be paired with Haizhou Ancient Town and Lianyungang Museum in the same part of the city. The mountain provides the cliff carvings and a short viewpoint walk, the museum offers an indoor visit, and the ancient town works well for an evening stroll and dinner.
